  2. PowerPoint - Outlines • Objectives: • The student will: • Understand that an outline can create a PowerPoint presentation • Know how to create a text and word file outline and import it into PowerPoint

  3. PowerPoint - Outlines • PowerPoint can open outlines in a number of formats and automatically turn them into a set of slides. • This can be a quick way to create a PowerPoint presentation • How helpful that is depends on the original formatting, especially whether paragraph styles were applied with outlining in mind.

  4. PowerPoint - Outlines • PowerPoint will only try to open outline files with the following extensions:txt, rtf, xls, xlw, doc, wps, wpd, wk1, wk3, wk4, mcw.

PowerPoint – Using a Text File to Create an Outline • Use indentation set the slide Title and Bullet levels • For example the text: Zebras Scientific Name: EquidaeEquus Habitat and Feeding: Zebra's live in sub-desert, plains and arid and bushy grassland. Zebra feeds on coarse grass, sedges, bark, leaves, buds, fruits, roots. • Creates the following slide…

PowerPoint – Using Word to Create an Outline • Remember creating Headings in Word? • You can use those headings to create slides and bullet lists on the slides: • Heading 1 – New Slide Title • Heading 2 – First Level Bullet • Heading 3 – Second Level Bullet • PowerPoint will use the some of the font information from the Style in Word to format the slides.

  9. PowerPoint – Creating the PowerPoint from the Outline • You can open an outline directly with PowerPoint's Open dialog, but, you must set the file type to All Outlines so you can see your outline in the list of files to choose:

  10. PowerPoint – Creating the PowerPoint from the Outline • PowerPoint will create a default presentation based on the outline. • Simply select a design template and you are done with the slides.

  11. PowerPoint: Outlines Summary • Outlines can be used to quickly and easily create PowerPoint Slides. • Create the outline in Notepad (using indentation) or Word (using Headings) and then open in PowerPoint.

Rest of Today – Homework 5-9 • Pick an animal • Create an outline with the following information: • Animal – Scientific Name • Your Name and Period • Physical Characteristics • Size • Color • Etc. • Habitat – Where do they live? – What type of environment? • Food – What do they eat? • Start creating your outline • Use Word and Headings • Use Notepad and indent with tabs • Tomorrow you will finish the assignment • Use your outline to create a PowerPoint presentation
