  2. A • Adobe “bricks” are just tightly pressed earth.

  3. B • Bargeboards, also called vergeboards, hang from the projecting end of a roof.

  4. C • In Old English, cob was a root word that meant lump or rounded mass. Cob houses are made of clay-like lumps of soil, sand, and straw.

  5. D • A dormer is a window which is set vertically on a slanting roof. The dormer has its own roof, which can be flat, arched, or pointed.

  6. E • An eave is the edge of a roof. Eaves usually are beyond the side of the building.

  7. F • A Flying buttress is a support, usually made of brick or stone, built against a wall to support it.

  8. G • A gable is the triangle formed by a sloping roof. A building may be front-gabled or side-gabled.
