National Horticulture Mission • Action plan for 2005-06 approved by National Executive Committee for NHM. • Broadly includes, Nursery promotion, Vegetable Seed Production, Post Harvest Management etc. • During the year first phase (2005-06) National Horticulture Mission started in seven districtsBilaspur, Korba, Kabirdham, Durg, Jagdalpur, Raigarh and Sarguja out of 16 districts. • Total outlay of 50.29 Crores for 05-06 covering 10760 ha. • Amount received till Date – 23.6783 Crores only. • Total Expenditure upto March 2006 – 3.539 Crores.

  3. National Horticulture Mission • Implementation Strategies for the Mission : • Cluster Approach. • Chhattisgarh Horticulture Model. • Post Harvest Management. • Advanced Marketing Arrangement – MOUs.

  4. Cluster Approach • 250-500 acres in one patch. • Selection of 10-20 villages in 25-30 Km radius. • In one village, minimum of 25 acres. • 46 Clusters have been identified covering about 585 villages and about 13500 farmers.

  5. Chhattisgarh Horticulture Model An innovative approach for development of Horticulture Sector in the State: • Orchard Development – Mango, Litchi, Cashew • Compulsory Intercropping – Vegetables, Flowers, Medicinal and Aromatic Plant, Spices • Drip Irrigation • Cow based organic farming / Vermi-composting

  16. Comments on Preparation of Work Plan for 06-07 • District Management Committee has been requested to submit work-plan of their districts. • Area Identification and Cluster Formation is in progress. • It would take nearly 1 month to submit the work-plan for 06-07.

  17. Special achievements • Formal launching of NHM by Hon’ble Chief Minister at Kabirdham on 30 January 2006. • Developed approximately 2336 ha. under Spices Development Programme, viz. Garlic (486 ha.), Chillies (1600 ha.), Coriander (250 ha.) • Organized Horticulture Mela and Flower show “Pushpanjali- 2006” on February 15-16, 2006 for awareness generation among masses regarding NHM. • Adopting Cluster approach in implementation of schemes with crop area in patches ranging 300-500 acres under various Horticultural crops. • Chhattisgarh Horticulture Model – through emphasis on Orchard development, intercropping, cow-based organic farming, and Drip irrigation (micro-irrigation).

  18. Promotion of Organic farming • Promotion of Organic farming and initiative taken for organic certification in Durg and Kabirdham district with involvement of SGS firm – a German Certification agency based in New Delhi. • Corresponding with the Inspection and Certification Agencies of India which are accredited under the National Programme on Organic Production (NPOP).
