  1. Cells: What are They Made of? Explanation of the cell from out to in By Alex Yew & Jessica Carranco

  2. The cell!!! • It is the building blocks of all life. You are made up of billions of cells. But what makes up a cell?

  3. First stop: The Cell Membrane • The cell membrane is the “skin” of the cell. It protects and surrounds everything inside. It is also selectively permeable, allowing things to enter and leave of the cell.

  4. The green stuff: Cytoplasm • Cytoplasm is the liquid formula that holds everything in place in the cell. Imagine a liquid goo everywhere! EWWWWW!!

  5. Need Energy? Mitochondria!! • The mitochondria is the “energy source” for the cell. This is where the cell gets the energy to do a little dance, and get down tonight. It contains cristae that are needed for aerobic respiration

  6. Traveling time! You need a Golgi Apparatus • The Golgi Apparatus is composed of flattened sacs and it packages the cells products. This is needed for protection of the cell products

  7. The Centrosome baby!!! • It’s the structure made up of two hollow cylinders called centrioles. Its function is to distribute chromosomes. That sounds easy!!!

  8. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) • Do you watch the show ER?! Totally not the same! The Endoplasmic Reticulum is made up of a folded membrane and provides a tubular..TUBULAR DUDE! Transport system inside the cell… There are two ER’s in the cell…

  9. The rough ER synthesizes and transport proteins. It appears rough because it has ribosomes on it The smooth ER synthesizes transport lipids. It is smooth because it didn’t want to copy the rough ER. So it doesn’t have any ribosomes on it Which one do you like? Rough or Smooth?

  10. CELLS CELLS ARE SO COOL!

  11. Nucleus • It is the “brain” of the cell. This is where the DNA is stored, and this is what controls the cell.

  12. Explanation • In 1874, Ernst Haeckel said that all members vertebrate classes pass through an identical evolutionary conserved “phylotypic” stage. In 1997, he was proved wrong by Michael Richardson and his colleagues, who said that they found differences between creatures in these early stages of life.

  13. ANNND • THE END!!

  14. Similarities in Embryology
