Halifax overview • Population: 403,000. • A smart city: • 6 universities/3 community college campuses; • 67% of workforce have some post-secondary education; • Critical mass of public/private sector scientists doing world-class research and development; • Halifax Marine Research Institute. • Strategically-located for transportation by air, sea, road and rail.

Key assets The most regional head offices in Atlantic Canada, including the “big 5” banks; The second largest concentration of financial services companies in Canada; The largest share of DND assets in Canada, including home to the East Coast Navy; Largest commercial Aerospace & Defence cluster east of Montreal; One of the largest concentrations of health care facilities in Canada; The largest seaport and airport in Atlantic Canada.

Halifax growth sectors Halifax has strong growth sectors in: • Ocean Industries; • Shipbuilding; • Ocean Technology; • Aerospace and Defence; • Transportation and Logistics; • Financial Services; • Life Sciences; • Digital Industries. These sectors are identified as priorities in AGREATERHalifax, the 2011-16 Economic Strategy for Halifax.
