  3. People know many things: they know how to make fire; they know that the sun will set and rise. Some things they are passionately certain they “know” and need little to no justification to prove that it is indeed fact. TOK & GOOD TASTE

  4. Let’s watch a quick example of this type of “knowner” While you watch: Pay attention to Sam as he will act as the “challenger” for : what is perceived “certain” knowledge and what is knowledge based on justification TOK & GOOD TASTE

  6. The objective of this exercise is to get you to develop a little “Sam” for all your Areas of Knowledge (AoKs) to challenge what is passionately held convictions and what is justifiable facts. TOK & GOOD TASTE

  7. Activity directions: When applied to a food choose which color Pink Red Purple Green Blue you are certain will bring about the most satisfying taste. TOK & GOOD TASTE

  8. Now turn over the handout “Knowledge And GOOD TASTE” and follow the directions. TOK & GOOD TASTE

  9. Reflective Quote What are the differences between “I am certain” and “it is certain”, and is passionate conviction ever sufficient for justifying knowledge? TOK & GOOD TASTE

Homework: Eat the second Jolly Rancher As you complete your homework assignment, slowly and contemplatively reflect onyour “newly” gained knowledge about the nature of passionately held “certainty” and how it can influence your understanding of what is “fact” and what is “belief”.
