Joe Schmo 03\17\14 p3 Draft 3 “Superheroes” There are many superheroes in the world today. Of course, there are the popular ones like Superman, Spiderman, and Iron Man, but there are also groups like X-Men, the Avengers, and the Power Rangers. There are also women like Storm and Wonder Woman, and even animals like the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles and Underdog.. I will never forget the time I was eight years old and Batman was on TV at 4pm each day. I envied his cape and would run around the house, holding a towel to my neck, letting my “cape” flow behind me like Batman’s or Superman’s. I loved all superhero shows, but they were my favorite two. They had their similarities, true, but they had more differences that made them each unique and enjoyable to watch. People many not realize that Superman and Batman have more than their popularity in common. The most obvious similarity is that both wear colorful costumes. In fact, they even have a similar affection for the colors yellow and blue in those costumes. Their outfits, both in business suits and superhero suits, portray the characteristics that they want to project. Looking at them as adults, one may not ever see the young boy who was left orphaned to be raised in a foster situation, yet that is a shared experience. Perhaps that is the similarity that launched both of their desires to help people and fight evil. They both seem driven to fight crime - perhaps it is because they live in densely populated cities where evil lurks around every corner, corruption is rife, and the citizens depend upon them. Because they fight such crime, and serve the people, neither can ever really develop close relationships for fear that their enemies, which they both encounter, would use their loved ones against them. Even these similarities, however, are no match for their differences. Superman and Batman are each their own unique character. True, they both wear a costume, but while Batman’s is entirely black, Superman’s is primarily blue with touches of red (and a big red cape to top it off with) – both “power” colors. The other interesting thing about their costumes that makes them different is that Superman’s blue and red “costume” is actually how the people of his planet dressed, so when he is in his “disguise, “ it is really as Clark Kent the human, so he can blend and listen for those in need. Another huge difference between them is who they love: Superman is in love with squeaky-clean Lois Lane, but Batman is in love with the bad-girl Catwoman. Each man might want to reveal his true identity, and with Lois Lane, Superman’s identity is probably safe, but with Catwoman being a villain, it is one secret she probably would exploit at the first moment she has a chance! Batman and Superman have some similarities, but more differences. Out of all the superheroes in the world today, their differences are what makes them my favorite.. Statement of general topic .
