Community of Practitioners in Governance: • Good governance as a critical requirement for improving accountability for delivering services, effective and transparent use of resources (human, financial and infrastructure) and enhance participation and voice of the community in decisions related to their health and wellbeing.

  3. Objectives: • Provide a platform to share experiences and innovations for improving service delivery though enhanced governance • Build regional capacities for governance assessments, supporting ongoing country efforts to improve governance and assess the impact of these efforts.

  4. Governance structures: • Regional Steering committee to guide the CoPs - Coordination Biannual Meetings - Regional HHA focal point • Two sub regional CoP networks for country dialogue and capacity building – Sub Regional HHA Focal points • Thematic groups: Supply side and demand side governance

  5. Activities undertaken in 2010: • Governance and accountability training for country counterparts from 4 East African Countries – 36 participants + some HHA members • Initiated community of practitioners in East Africa with periodic video conferencing

  6. Proposed Activities for 2011: • Mapping of governance experts among HHA partners and academic institutions : USD 20,000 • Documenting and disseminating the success stories : USD 25,000 • Maintaining regular communication among the COP members though HHA Cop Website, newsletters and video conferences: USD 50,000 • Regional capacity building for undertaking governance assessments in the health sector - Institutional frameworks: USD 50,000 (? JICA support through AMREF) • In-country support for pilots/innovations - Demand side Governance, Improving procurement of health sector goods (Country based HHA partner supported)
