  49. Unit 1: Athletics • We have chosen Athletics because physical education has its roots in the ancient Greek, Spartan and Roman cultures. During religious festivals in the ancient city of Olympia (in Greece) soldiers put aside their weapons and competed in peace, in athletic events to demonstrate their power and skill.. • From these events were born the Olympic Games, Gladiators and the Gymnasias (the first schools), which focused on Mathematics, History, Philosophy, Science, Athletics and the ability to Debate. These schools believed in educating the whole person and that all knowledge and skill were relevant and important.

  50. Plan • During this unit (with our help) you are going to identify your potential, choose an event, plan and participate in training sessions, measure your performances and analyze your improvement during the process. It is a unit which will focus on developing organizational skills, individual planning and design, reflection and analysis. The unit will be focused through the Area of Interaction: Environment because it is the sum of all environmental factors which create the athlete. Allphotographstakenfrom Google Images
