Assignment 6-1 1.Completely colour map of B.C-Shade Pacific,Alberta,Wash,NWT.,Yukon, Alaska. 2.Identify all  Locations on Map- In Warm up sheet Include:Rocky/ Coast Mountains 3.Using Atlas-Measure Distance From Vancouver to-- You will be given a quiz on this information so make sure to do your corrections and practice identifying..

  4. 6-2  The Oregon Territory 

  5. Learning Outcome-- Students will identify issues of land ownership in early Canada and the attitudes towards this territory.

  6. Look at the Map in Figure 6-1. What do you recognize? What  is different?

  7. Read quietly pages 206 -208.. As you are reading try and determine the two groups who controlled this area...

  8. Attitudes regarding the Oregon Territory? Who were the two groups vying for this land? What was the difference in their approach to controlling this area? Share your opinion with a partner

  20. When was British Columbia created? Where was our first Capital city? Do you know?

  21. Learning Outcomes: Today you will learn about  reasons for the formation of British Columbia.  You will also draw conclusions about British Columbia's population based on graphs.

  22.  Read Quietly 220-221 Decide : What were reasons for uniting the colonies to form B.C? Discuss as a class?

  23. Population Changes in the Colonies: Look at Figure 6-14 What was the population of the Cariboo in  1861?

  24. LM 6.5-  Analysis of Graphs Complete the Chart on your own.. Complete #2- Discuss at least two increases and two decreases (reasons) and impacts on local environment. Join partner and compare charts.

  25. Text Assignment:  Read 222 1. When were the colonies joined into British Columbia? 2. Describe the government of the time (1866)? 3. Where was the capital city? 4.Note a couple differences of our current government.

  26. 6-6 The Confederation  Debates and Emergence of Vancouver as BC's Major City..

  27. Does everyone always agree when a decision has to be made? Viewpoints often vary on controversial issues, such as what type of pizza to order:)

  28. Learning Outcome: Today you will learn to identify  different viewpoints on B.C. joining Confederation and reasons for Vancouvers emergence as our primary city.

  29. You will be numbered 1-3 1=Anti-confederationist 2= Confederationist 3= Annexationists

  30. Individual Task-- 1. First write out your definition.  Paraphrase the definition in your own words.. 2. Summarize in your own words the viewpoint of your group.     3. Determrine three valid reasons why this viewpoint is held by this group.

  31. Group Task #2 1. Join together with other Colonists and proceed to share your viewpoints on the idea of Confederation. Filling Out LM 6.6-Confederation Debates.. 2. When finished read the final paragraph on page 226 and summarize the final outcome on the back of  LM 6/6

How is he remembered in Vancouver today? 4. Why was Vancouver chosen over Port Moody as the terminus of the CPR? Why did this spur on Vancouver to become such a populated and busy city? 5. How has the Port of Vancouver changed over the years?

  34. British Columbia is a Multi-Cultural Province. Why is this the case?  Where did early immigrants come from and why did they come to B.C?

  35. Learning Outcomes: Today you will identify factors that supported immigrants coming to British Columbia, and the contributions these groups made to our province.

  36. Task 1: You will be assigned an immigrant group to study: 1. Kanakas 2. Black Immigrants 3. Jewish Immigrants 4. Chinese Immigrantse

  37. Task 1: Continued Read the appropriate section for your group..(231-238) Identify push factors, pull factors, obstacles and contributions.. Push factors- are reasons to leave your country Pull factors- are reasons to immigrate existing in your new country.

  38. Task 2- Group Work Join together with other representatives of immigrant groups and fill out organizer: Students should have a minimum   of two points per topic 6.7- A Province of Diversity Together answer questions 2 and 3 on the back of your L.M6.7
