  1. AREVA / CVCC National Career Pathways Network Conference Stephanie Hart Program Manager October 18, 2012 Presentation title – Presenter/ref. - - p.1

  2. Industry Challenges • In 2001, AREVA recognized a gap between skills it was seeking in our entry-level workers and candidates received through general recruitment strategies. Other challenges at the time were: • Aging workforce – expect that up to 90,000 new workers are required within next several years • Decline in relevant degree programs and a lack of technical skills training programs • At the same time, AREVA wanted to contribute to the growth of the regional economy by recruiting and hiring locally and by expanding local students’ interest in the nuclear field. 3. Partnership • AREVA partnered with CVCC to establish the Employee Training Program (ETP) in 2002. • It was a part of a one million dollar contribution to CVCC’s Major Gift’s Campaign to ensure that AREVA remained a national leader in the nuclear technologies program through the construction and outfitting of CVCC’s new Manufacturing Technology Building. Three elements comprised the investment: • A yearly cash contribution • A contribution consisting of an adjustment to the current tuition paid through the ETP • A contribution of tools and equipment for the new Manufacturing Technology Building at CVCC Presentation title – Presenter/ref. - - p.3

  4. AREVA/CVCC Employee Training Program • Program provides a mix of: • Traditional academic courses • Highly focused technology courses • Hands-on learning experience • On-the-job training • The entire curriculum for the ETP was developed jointly by AREVA and CVCC • Technicians support field activities during outage seasons • During non-outage seasons, technicians take CVCC courses & AREVA technical training • Technicians receive college credit for a portion of their AREVA training • Other college-level courses are taught on a flexible, often accelerated schedule • Technicians receive an Associates Degree in Nuclear Support Technologies • Receive steady income year-round for both work and training periods • Full employment benefits • All educational expenses paid Presentation title – Presenter/ref. - - p.4

  5. ETP Participants • AREVA recruits and hires high school graduates and those currently in the workforce to join as full time employees • Providing them salaries with earned increases and other benefits such as health insurance. • Prospective employees and ETP candidates apply online and undergo an extensive interview process. • On average we hire 8 full time employees into the ETP twice a year • Typically, it takes two and a half to three years to complete the program and graduate with an Associates Degree in Nuclear Support Technologies in one of several focus areas, including: • Robotics • Repair Technology (machining, welding) • Non-Destructive Testing • Radiation Protection • Quality Assurance Presentation title – Presenter/ref. - - p.5

  6. ETP Participants Cont. • In order to support ETP participants, AREVA provides pre-paid tuition for the associate degree, along with the cost of books. • During the summer and winter, participants take accelerated learning classes at CVCC, earning up to 10 academic credits for five weeks of classes. • AREVA places these participants in the field at nuclear sites in the spring and fall, allowing them to earn up to six academic credits for field work. • Participants also earn 12 academic credits for AREVA-based technical on-the-job training taught by company trainers. • In order to meet our business needs, CVCC is extremely flexible, and offers classes during academic off time. 7. Meeting a Business Need • Since the beginning of the ETP and the partnership with CVCC, 154 workers have been hired into the program and 27 are currently enrolled. • To date, 84 have graduated from the program • AREVA’s managers strive to recruit the ETP participants and graduates due to their outstanding reputations for knowledge and field experience. • While still completing the program, many ETP participants are immediately put in task lead positions, thereby, increasing their competency and skills level quicker than off-the-street hires. 8. The partnership with CVCC directly addresses AREVA’s business need to recruit qualified and skilled employees, and ensure that AREVA is an employee of choice in Central Virginia, while providing the local workforce with economic and career opportunities in the nuclear industry Presentation title – Presenter/ref. - - p.8
