  2. Plot (definition) Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. The plot revolves around the conflict.

  4. 1. Exposition • The beginning of the story where the following are introduced: • The Main Characters Protagonist: main character or hero Antagonist: another character which causes conflict for the protagonist. • The Setting ( Where and When the story takes place.) • The main conflict (main problem).

  5. 2. Rising Action • This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). • A building of interest or suspense occurs.

  6. 3. Climax • The climax is the point of maximum interest. • It usually occurs toward the middle to end of a story. • The conflict does not develop further after the climax.

  7. 4. Falling Action • The characters attempt to solve the conflict.

  8. 5. Resolution • The conflict is solved. • The story comes to a reasonable ending.

Theme Theme-the central idea, or insight, about life or human behavior that a story reveals. • If the character learns a valuable lesson, so will you. • Theme is what we can learn from a story. • Themes must be inferred. • Themes are about the BIG world. Examples: Three Little Pigs ( Hard work pays off ) The Ugly Duckling ( Appearances aren’t everything)
