  2. Health Skills Health skills, also known as life skills, enable you to make better, more informed health choices.

  3. Social Health Skills I. Are you able to communicate effectively? Can you clearly say what you mean? Are you a good listener? Can you express your knowledge, beliefs, and ideas in many different forms? Can you say “no” to negative behaviors and peer pressure? II. Refusal Skills Say no. State that it goes against your values. Suggest an alternative. Use body language to back up your words. Leave if necessary.

  4. Questions? How do we form our self-concept? Can good self-esteem enable you to say “no” more effectively? Do people engage in high risk activities to get attention? Or are they just ignorant?

  5. Mental and EmotionalHealth Skills Self esteem – the confidence and worth that you feel about yourself. Build up your self-esteem: - Don’t be your own worst critic - Don’t judge yourself by what others think of you - Focus on what you do well

Mental and EmotionalHealth Skills Managing your stress -Use physical activity to manage your stress -Do something relaxing -Watch something that will make you laugh Are you able to access reliable information? Don’t get caught up in the popularized fads. What if you need help, what would you do?

  7. The Decision-Making Model State the situation List the possible options Weigh the possible outcomes Consider our values Make a decision and take action Evaluate your decision

  8. Setting Goals Select a goal List what you will do to reach the goal Identify sources of help and support Set a reasonable time frame for reaching your goal Have check points to evaluate Reward yourself for reaching your goal
