  4. Dutch Colonies • Dutch West India Company got Charter to Colonize Hudson Valley Called New Netherlands in 1621. • New Amsterdam (New York City) was Established in 1625 • Took over new Sweden. • Fur trading was main economic activity U.S. H&G - Br. Siraj

  5. Nature of Dutch Colony • Multi Ethnic • Dutch • French • Africans • Scandinavian • Friendly to Native Americans • Not interested to conquer them • English Took over in 1664 & Renamed New York • New Jersey Was Crated from it U.S. H&G - Br. Siraj

  6. The Quaker Colonies • Quakers • Egalitarian Sect • No formal minister for religious services • Dressed plainly – no distinction between social classes • Opposition to war and refusal to serve in the army. U.S. H&G - Br. Siraj
