  2. Topics covered • Team effectiveness? • Excellent team ? • Boehm’s principles ? • Factors affecting team effectiveness? • How to improve the team effectiveness ?

  3. Team effectiveness ? • Team effectiveness is the output of the team when there is a proper guidance or direction given to the team members.

  4. Basics • Basically T.E has two variables: (a.) Efforts. (b.) Direction. T.E = Efforts +Direction.

  5. Concept of T.E • When a group of people working together for a project then they can achieve much more than if the individuals of the team working for that work. • But T.E ≠ No. of members of a team T.E=Skills of team members.

  6. Excellent team ? • An Excellent team is a group of highly skilled persons that can use resources in an efficient manner.

  7. Boehm’s principles ? • The principle of top talent : Use better and fewer people. • The principle of job matching : Tasks to be given to the skilled one. • The principle of career progression : An organization does best in the long run by helping its people to self-actualize.

  8. The principle of team balance : Select people who will complement and harmonize with one another. • The principle of phase out : Keeping a misfit on the team doesn’t benefit anyone.

  9. Factors affecting team effectiveness ? • Skills of members:- Which type of persons are engaged in the project. • Motivation:- T.E is directly related to the interest of team members in the project. • Leadership:-The ability to solve conflicts without affecting the quality of the project.

  10. How to improve the team effectiveness ? • The concept of building better teams and improving their effectiveness can be broken down into four steps:- 1) Specify the Aim. 2) Set Team Objectives. 3) Creation of Plan. 4) Keeping adequate records.

  11. Specify the Aim… • Team leader should specify the aim of project to all team members.

  12. Set Team Objectives… • Every team should have definite objectives or goals.

  13. Creation of Plan… • Plan should be simple and clear. • It should be flexible. • The concept of backup should be given in plan in case of any mishap.

  14. Keeping Adequate Records… • These are simply meetings where the team members come together to discuss the team's results and future plans. • Proper motivation should be given to team members time to time.
