  2. CSTEP: Internships and Research • What is an Internship? • Supervised Practical Experience that allows students to gain professional knowledge • Some are paid; others are not • What is Research Experience? • A type of Internship that includes scientific laboratory experiences

  3. CSTEP: Internships and Research Why participate in an Internship? • Opportunity for income ($$) • Professional Experience • Networking • Gain knowledge • Opens other doors of opportunity • Provides the extra “competitive factor” when seeking entrance to upper level academia and your career***

CSTEP: Internships and Research Entrance to 4-year academic institution or graduate school: • Competition is accelerated (less seats)- How do you stand out above the other applicants? • Transcripts • GRE (or other standardized tests) • Letters of Recommendation • Admissions Essay • Internship Experience****

CSTEP: Internships and Research 5 Steps: • Decide what type of Internship would benefit you (research based or professional development focused) • Conduct your own research of opportunities available based on #1 (internet search) • For research based- Research Experience for Undergraduates • For professional development focus- profession and internship (ie. Law internships)

  8. CSTEP: Internships and Research 5 Steps (cont’d): • Thoroughly read and make sure to understand the requirements needed for the internship. • Determine if you meet the requirements. • If so, apply.
