  2. New and Old Versions of Firearms to Find on GunBroker.com As time goes on, firearms are improved and reiterated. Even the famous 1911 has gone through multiple changes, and modern versions are referred to as 2011s. From the original M16-style rifle to the modern AR 15, here are some firearms you might want to search for when looking for a sale or auction on GunBroker.com. The Colt Single Action Army and the Ruger Vaquero The Colt Single Action Army is likely what you picture when you think of cowboys. It is one of the most famous revolvers ever made, also known as the Peacemaker and M1873. The SAA, issued to the U.S. Cavalry, is still in production today. However, there are also more modern takes, such as the Ruger Vaquero. Original SAAs were not safe to load all six cylinders and could accidentally fire in the holster, a design flaw which the Vaquero fixes. This is why cowboys only loaded five rounds and kept the hammer on the empty cylinder. Meanwhile, Colt only manufactured a safe version that could have the hammer resting on a loaded chamber between 2002 and 2003, called the Colt Cowboy.

  3. The 1911 and the 2011 The 1911 may be one of the most famous semi-automatic handguns in history, but it has been reiterated upon during more than a century of use. There is now the 2011, such as the line offered by Staccato, formerly STI guns. The 2011 is a double-stack and has three main parts instead of the two of the 1911. The trigger is also different to accommodate the double-stack magazine. These are higher-end handguns meant for both law enforcement and competition use. The M14, the Ruger Mini 14, and the Ruger Mini 30 The M14 replaced the M1 Garand as the rifle of choice for the U.S Army in 1959. It was the last battle rifle before the M16 replaced it but still sees use today. The Ruger Mini 14 is a newer version that looks like the M14, albeit smaller. It has an action more like the M1 and is chambered in 223 instead of 762x51. Then, based on the Mini 14 Ranch Rifle, came the 762x39- chambered Ruger Mini 30. The Mini 30 incorporates numerous innovations and cost-saving engineering changes that were added to the Mini 14 and is a popular gun for hunting deer. The smaller design makes it ideal for backcountry hunting. AK 47 and AK 74 The AK 47 is one of the most popular rifles in the world, but it has seen not one but two replacements, both designed by original designer Mikhail Kalashnikov. The first was the AKM, which, like the AK 47, used the 762x39 cartridge. The AK 74, introduced in 1974, updates both older models and uses the 545x39 cartridge. This is similar to the 556x45 round that the AR 15 typically uses and has a lighter recoil to match. It is also lighter and shoots flatter compared to the AK 47.
