  1. The hope of freedom 6-14-09

  2. What is the cost of freedom? • Revolutionary War 25,000 • Mexican-American War 13,283 • American Civil War 623,026 • World War I 116,708 • World War II 407,316 • Korea 36,914 • Vietnam 58,169 • Iraqi 4,299+ From www.militaryfactory.com

  3. What is the meaning of freedom? • You can do what you want, when you want • If it feels good do it • The ability to choose for yourself • Capitalism? • No responsibility, no rules, no requirement • No one can tell you what to do

  4. Do we really even know???

  5. Absolutely – Yes, we know John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

  6. Now lets connect the dots • Pontious Pilate asked the question first • What is truth? John 18:38 • Jesus had already answered it • I am the Way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 • Jesus = truth, knowing truth = freedom • THEN KNOWING JESUS = FREEDOM

  7. Then pride gets in the way John 8:33 They answered Him “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, “You will be made free.””

  8. And the Savior responds John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

  9. A few questions to ponder: • Who has more freedom, the prostitute who just found Jesus • Or the stagnant church goer who thinks being a good person is going to get them to heaven? • The Chinese Christian who is about to be martyred for not denouncing their belief • Or the complacent believer who has fallen into the same old routine

  10. And for Biker Sunday • Why do we ride….what do we enjoy? • The wind in our faces • Taking the long way home • Experiencing life, not just drive through it • The temperature change in the valley • The smell of the honeysuckle • We love the freedom when we ride

  11. Do you want that same freedom in every facet of life?
