  4. Exhibit Setup (Tue 17 Aug 2010) • Exhibit Setup on Tuesday 17th August 2010, anytime from 9am – 5pm. • Register at the counter in the Annex Lobby. Upon registration, a T-shirt will be given to you that is to be worn during the exhibit setup and judging. Note: only the 3 team members are allowed into the competition hall (Annex Building) • Upon registration, you will look for and refer to a venue map to identify your exhibit booth. • Proceed to your booth and set up your exhibit. • Note: Teams absent on 17th Aug 2010 for the setup will be disqualified. • At your designated exhibit booth, you will find: • 1 booth table top of dimensions 1200mm x 750mm • 1 poster stand (Note: posters are to be mounted on a foam board before arrival at the Science Centre) • Your team number • 1 power socket • What else you need to do besides setting up your exhibit. • Put up and mount your poster on the provided stand • Leave your Journal/Logbook(s) on the booth (please label your logbook with your assigned team number) * In case you need to repair or make minor modifications to your exhibit, there will be a workbench located inside the hall with basic hand tools.

  5. Pointers for setting up exhibits on 17th Aug Be mindful of the following: • Before you leave home, please check to make sure you have everything you need to set up your exhibit. i.e. tools, equipment etc. • It is advisable to have your exhibit delivered to the Annex driveway. • If your exhibits require water, you may take water from the centre's public toilets. • Take care in handling your exhibit during transport. • Respect the workspace you have been given and try to work within your work area • Do not disturb other participants or touch the other exhibits. • Estimate the amount of time required to set up your exhibit properly; if your setup is relatively complicated, be sure to arrive early. • When you have completed your setup, you may revisit your exhibit as many times as you want, until 5pm.

  6. Judging Schedule • Judging shall take place over the 2 days, Wed 18 Aug 2010 and Thu 19 Aug 2010. Wed 18 Aug 2010 • Category B • Teams have been split into two groups. • Judging for these 2 groups will take place in parallel (with the teams present) from morning till mid afternoon (see next slide for reporting times) Thu 19 Aug 2010 • Category A • Category C • Category D

Reporting Times for Teams Wed 18 Aug 2010 9.20am : Teams B1 to B8 ; Teams B32 to B39 10.50am: Teams B9 to B16 ; Teams B40 to B47 1.00pm: Teams B17 to B24 ; Teams B48 to B55 2.30pm: Teams B25 to B31 ; Teams B56 to B61 Thu 19 Aug 2010 9.20am : Teams D1 to D6 ; Teams C1 to C6 10.30am: Teams D7 to D12 ; Teams C7 to C15 1.00pm: Teams C16 to C22 1.30pm: Teams A1 to A8 2.30pm: Teams A9 to A16 ; Teams C23 to C27 3.50pm: Teams A17 to A20

  8. What to do on judging day • Make sure you come on the correct day (either 18 or 19 Aug), and take note of your reporting timing. All team members are to wear the ASXC T-shirts distributed on 17 Aug 2010. • Upon arrival, register at the counter located at Science Centre’s main entrance. • Upon registration, please follow signs to the Maxwell auditorium. • Please wait at Maxwell auditorium until you are called upon by the competition ushers. While waiting for your turn, do relax, visit the toilets and prepare yourselves mentally. • Competition ushers will escort or direct you to the Annexe where judging take place – once there you will be given further instructions. At this point, you are not allowed to visit the toilets or wander around the competition area. You are to keep your volume down, and wait quietly for your turn. Your teachers will not be allowed in the competition area. • Someone will call you to your exhibit booth to meet the judges. Once the judges release you, please leave the competition hall immediately.

  9. Tips for Judging Day • Please be reminded of the Rules and Requirements of the competition e.g. physical science theme, maximum exhibit dimensions, 1 poster etc. • Your exhibit should be a stand-alone, self-explanatory exhibit, just like any you would find at Science Centre. Hence, the judges will be previewing and starting to judge your exhibit in your absence. • After the judges’ preview, your team will be invited to your exhibit booth to meet the judges. You are not allowed to give a prepared presentation. Instead the judges will ask you questions to understand more about your exhibit, your exhibit creation process, your understanding of the science behind the exhibit and so on.

  10. Award Ceremony Day (Sat 21 Aug 2010) • 10.00 am All Teams to register at Annexe Foyer and gather for briefing • 10.15am Briefing for the Day and Announcement of prize winning teams • 10.45am -12pm Prize Winning teams stay back for rehearsal; other teams may touch up their exhibits • 12.00pm Lunch (All exhibit touch ups should be completed by 1.15pm). • 1.30pm All teams to re-assemble at Annexe • 1.45-2.00pm Arrival of invited guests and Guest-of-Honour (Dr Ng Eng Hen) • 2.00- 3.00pm Award presentation ceremony and prize presentation • 3:00 – 3:40pm Viewing of exhibits by GOH and guests (all teams to stand by their exhibits) • 3:40pm Reception • 4.00pm End of ASXC 2010 award ceremony • 3.40-4.30pm Exhibits should continue to be manned • 4.30pm – 6.00pm Teams are to clear their exhibits*. Exhibits not cleared will be disposed. * Except for Selected Winning teams who will have their exhibits exhibited at the Science Centre for two weeks. Thereafter, arrangements are to be made for collection.

  11. Award ceremony – What you should do If you are an ASXC competition winner • Everyone is encouraged to turn up for the Award ceremony on 21st August. Winners will be announced in the morning. • Please wear your School uniform for the award ceremony. • If all your team members are unable to attend the ceremony, please send a representative. • For ASXC winners, In the annex building, please be seated in front of the stage by no later than 1:50 pm to receive your award. Please sit in the area on the right. Seating on the left is reserved for VIPs and guests only. • Unfortunately, as space is limited, the chairs provided are for competition winners. For others, please approach the stage to support the winners and your friends. • When you are called upon to receive your award, approach the stage from the right stair case and exit by the left stair case. • There will be approx 100 awards given on the day, so please be patient and wait for your turn. • An official letter will be given for cash awards; to collect your award, please follow the instructions on the letter. • After the reception, 12 winning teams will be selected and asked to stay a little longer as they are required to set up their exhibit at I-space for a further 2 weeks.

  12. Award ceremony – What you should do If you are an ASXC competition winner • For ASXC winners, In the annex building, please be seated in front of the stage by no later than 1:50 pm to receive your award, please sit in the area on the right. Seating on the left is reserved for VIPs and guests only. • When you are called upon to receive your award, approach the stage from the right stair case and exit by the left stair case.

  13. 3:40pm Reception • 4 reception areas 1 area for VVIP reception 3 areas for participants. Annex Foyer, Fire Exhibition & I-space. • Eating is only permitted in the designated areas. • As courtesy to Science Centre visitors, please dispose your rubbish properly, do not leave rubbish on exhibits or floor etc.
