  2. Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

  3. Psalm 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

  4. Psalm 95:5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

  5. Psalm 95:7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice

  6. One of the primary purposes for which man was created was to worship His maker.

  7. Man is a worshipping creature. He was meant to worship. In truth he was meant to the true and living God: “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Mat. 4:10b).

  8. When God has exhausted all means by which He attempts to draw men to worship Him, He will give them up to using that inward desire to worship something else:

  9. Rom. 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Rom. 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

  10. To worship anyone or anything other than the true and living God will destroy us physically, spiritually and emotionally.

  11. 1. God Is Seeking Worshippers

  12. John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

  13. The fact that God must seek worshippers of a certain nature tells us that they are not readily available and not easy, even for Him, to find.

  14. God wants to show Himself strong on behalf of a certain type of people, if He can only find those who meet a certain qualification:

  15. “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Chron. 16:9a).

  16. Do not be deceived into believing that the Almighty, all knowing God always finds what He is looking for:

  17. Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Eze 22:31 Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.

  18. God so much wants to withhold judgment and destruction that He will seek as hard as He can until He find that person.

  19. This is so unlike our enemy who seeks people for the express purpose of destroying them: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8).

  20. Sometimes God is able to find someone who has the character He has sought for:

  21. 1 Sam. 13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

  22. 1 Sam. 13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

  23. God is still seeking. He is seeking worshippers. Not just any kind of worshipper. He is looking for TRUE worshippers.

  24. 2. What Is Worship?

  25. John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

  26. The word Worship is derived from a compounding of two words: Worth-ship. When you and I worship God we are proclaiming His WORTHINESS.

  27. Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

  28. God is the only uncreated being in the universe. Everything else was created by Him and for Him. This is why He and He alone is the only One worthy of worship.

  29. “Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name” (Psalm 86:8, 9).

  30. Jesus, as well as the Father, is a worthy object of our worship:

  31. Rev 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

  32. Rev 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

  33. Rev 5:14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

  34. We Learn from the book of Revelation that: • Worship is glorifying, honoring, and adoring God simply for who He is. He is God the uncreated Creator. • worship is also glorifying, honoring, and adoring God and showing Him appreciation for what He has done.

  35. In one of his Psalms, King David teaches the value of ascribing worth to God for what He has done:

  36. Psalm 18:1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 18:3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

  37. In the model prayer of our Lord we see that all praying should begin with worship: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matt. 6:9).

  38. The Greek word translated as “hallowed” in this passage (hagiazo) is translated in other parts of the New Testament as “sanctify” or “be holy” (Rev. 22:11).

  39. Scripture teaches us how worship is often centered around the Name of the Lord (1 Chron. 16:29; Psalm 19:2; 66:4; 86:9; 96:8-9; 138:2; Rev. 15:4).

  40. 3. The Purpose For Worship

  41. John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

  42. We must worship God. It is essential that we do so. The Psalmist wrote: “Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture” (Psalm 100:2, 3; New International Version)

  43. We Understand Worship when we grasp the Revelation of Who God Is - God is HOLY!

  44. Rev 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. Rev 4:9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

  45. A true revelation of God’s holiness leads to worship: Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.... Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy (Psalm 99:5, 9).

  46. Understanding Holiness: Holiness is flawless perfection. It is true sinlessness. God is unable to do wickedness or perform a sinful act.

  47. “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness” (1 Chron. 16:29; also Ps. 29:2).
