  1. How to WORSHIP God

  2. 7. The Deity of Christ

  3. Ex. 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Matt. 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

  4. Most (if not all) cults deny the deity of Jesus Christ. However, if Jesus is not God then He is not to be worshipped. The Lord Himself said (in rebuttal to Satan), “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matt. 4:10).

  5. Important Truths: • Ordinary men are not to be worshipped • Angelic worship is forbidden in Scripture • Jesus was not an ordinary man and He is not an angel.

  6. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

  7. Scriptures declare that Jesus is indeed very God of God: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14)

  8. The Angels worshipped the Christ Child

  9. Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

  10. Wise Godly Men Worshipped the Christ Child

  11. Matt 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Matt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

  12. Matt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

  13. The Adult Christ Received Worship

  14. Matt 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God

  15. John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? John 9:36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

  16. John 9:37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. John 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

  17. Matt 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

  18. The Demons Recognized the Deity of Christ and Worshipped Him

  19. Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

  20. The Risen and Ascended Christ Continues to Receive Worship

  21. Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. Luke 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: Luke 24:53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

  22. Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; Phil 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  23. 8. Satan’s War Against God

  24. Matt 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; Matt 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Matt 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

  25. Satan is at war with God for the worship of those to whom God created.

  26. God’s wants worship in truth but Satan is willing to receive it through deception, control and manipulation.

  27. Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

  28. Rev 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

  29. Those who worship Satan are not going to make it into the Kingdom of God:

  30. Rev 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

  31. Idolatry: The Worship of Demons

  32. 1 Cor 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? 1 Cor 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

  33. 1 Cor 10:21 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

  34. Deut 32:16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. Deut 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. Deut 32:18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

  35. Satan is a deceiver and will never tell his worshippers the high cost they will pay in worshipping him and his demons.

  36. 9. Worship: A Key to Victory In Spiritual Warfare

  37. Psalm 106:36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Psalm 106:37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, Psalm 106:38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

  38. Worshipping Satan and demons will snare you. It will trap you and place you into bondage.

  39. When we choose to worship the true and living God, He gladly delivers us from the snare of the enemy:

  40. Psalm 91:1-3 (The Amplified Bible) Psalm 91:1 HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!

  41. Psalm 91:1-3 (The Amplified Bible, Cont.) Psalm 91:3 For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

  42. Worship is couple with “positive confession” of who God is and confidence in what He will do on our behalf before we see any visible results.

  43. Jehoshaphat demonstrated faith in the Word of the Lord through His worship of God before any visible results were present:

  44. 2 Chron 20:18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. 2 Chron 20:19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

  45. 2 Chron 20:20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

  46. 2 Chron 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Chron 20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

  47. It was this worship, done in complete faith in God, which moved God to work on their behalf.
