Introduction • The Swagelok 43G and 45 thermal service bal valve is a reliable valve candidate for the use in CO2 cooling systems. • At Nikhef a valve handle extension is designed to create a thermal resistance to the cold fluid in the valve and the warm outside world. • 40g valves exist in 2-way and 3-way and can be equipped with a manual, electrical or pneumatic actuation. • Extensions for 2 valve types are designed: • 43g series for 1/4” piping (1/4” VCR) • 43g series for 3/8” piping (3/8” HVCR) • 45 series for 3/8” and 1/2” piping (1/2” VCR) bverlaat@nikhef.nl

  3. Valves properties • 43G series ball valve: • SS-43GHLVCR4: 2-way: -53ºC / 206 bar , Cv=2.4 • SS-43GXVCR4: 3-way: -53ºC / 172 bar , Cv=0.9 • 45 series ball valve: • SS-45THLVCR8: 2 way: - 53ºC / 172 bar , Cv=12 • T-shape hole in ball to avoid cold liquid trap (2-way). bverlaat@nikhef.nl

Valve extension • Moisture free isolating support to ambient world • Panel mounting • Identical interface as original valve • Fits to all additional accessories like actuators. • Optimized design w.r.t insulation (As a normal T-joint) • Ideal way of supporting tubing • Extension side 200 mm (Tube center to panel front) • 200mm for both 45 and 43g series • Shorter (131.2mm) version available for 43g serie (LHCb-VTCS length) Ø18 200 (131.2) Ø68 Ø18 Insulation bverlaat@nikhef.nl
