What Happens When You Call 911 • Call received by County 911 Dispatcher located at the Willowbank building in Bellefonte • Type emergency, location, name • Dispatcher uses computer to obtain information for type call (Box Alarm) • Fire Company and Equipment Due • Ambulance Company • Dispatch Call • Fire Fighters notified by personal Pager • Police may also be dispatched at this time

  7. Response Cont. • Fire Fighters respond to the scene or station • From home • From work • Other : shopping, recreation • Arrive at station • Staff apparatus and respond to scene • Arrive on scene and begin operations to address emergency conditions

University Park • Alpha Fire Company (Primary FD) • Approx. 90 members (community members, PSU employees, PSU students) • Dispatched 15 times in 2003 to PSU (cancelled 3 times, worked 6 times, Ventilation, Vehicle fires). • Operate from main station (Atherton and Beaver Ave) and two sub-stations. (Patton and College township bldgs) • Responded to approx 850 requests for assistance in 2003 • Receives mutual aid from Bellefonte, Boalsburg, Pleasant Gap Fire Companies.

PSU Fire Response Procedure • Direct link between Centre County Emergency Communication Center and PSU Police Dispatch • Established protocol for Fire Alarm response • Alarm Received • Police Officer responds • All officers trained in fire behavior, extinguishing techniques, Search / Rescue etc.

  10. PSU Response Cont. • Fire Department dispatched immediately if: • Verbal confirmation of fire / hazardous condition • Multiple alarms received i.e. two smoke detectors, manual pull stations, water flow. • No officer available for response • Dispatcher discretion

University Park Airport • Crash / Fire / Rescue Vehicles on site • Several Airport Employees trained in aircraft emergency response. • Bellefonte Fire Department • Mutual Aid • Most fire departments utilize mutual aid to.. • Provide additional manpower • Provide equipment needs • Two recent events illustrate the commitment of Centre County Emergency Responders – I 80 Crash , Academy Apts. Fire.
