  2. In The beginning • After 9/11, Bush admin. was blaming Osama Bin Laden and declared a war on terrorism • The war began in March 2003 • The aim has been the destruction of Iraqi society enabling the US and Britain to gain control of Iraq's huge oil reserves. • Over a million Iraqi’s have died 2/3s were children

  3. In 2002 the US Gov’t persuaded the American society that the Iraqi behind the attacks • Its now about 50% of the population who believe it was the Iraq.. After 9/11 it was only 3% • In September 2003 George W. Bush admitted that there was no evidence linking Saddam to 9/11

  4. As of Sept.2011 • 4,483 US soldiers killed • 32,195 seriously wounded • War-Spending - About $1 trillion of US taxpayers' funds spent or approved for spending through 2011 • 6.6 billion dollars of US taxpayers was lost by the government(Jun.2011)

  5. Troops • In 2008, Iraq and the US signed a status of force agreement negotiated in the last days of the Bush administration, that called for the withdrawal of all American troops by the end of 2011. • President Barack Obama’s decision to withdraw US troops from Iraq before 2012 is, on all counts, one of the smartest moves the administration could make at this point in time.  • It’ll give him points for the upcoming election • Soldiers are planned to return home in December of this year. • The statistics show 1 in 5 of them will face PTSD • Post traumatic stress disorder • Many services can assist them with the help they need

  6. Osama Bin Laden • The May 1 U.S. attack on Osama bin Laden’s compound violated multiple elementary norms of international law, beginning with the invasion of Pakistani territory. • Hiding in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan • It was being monitored and when the time came the elite squad moved in • It was being kept a secret • 2 stealth helicopters flew in as one crashed • They shot a few guns killing

  7. Cost of war • As of right now they say this war will cost more then WW2 • It is at about $800 Billion • And with on going medical treatment and other needs it could push the total up to about 4 trillion or more dollars

  8. Updated Policies • The Baath Party ruled Iraq under Saddam Hussein but now is outlawed under Iraqi law, and the prime minister has often accused ex-Baathists of planning terrorist attacks across the country. It ended in 2010. • No provisional government, there was no control in Iraq. • President HamidKarzais plan to disband private security companies that protect billions of dollars worth of aid projects and replace them with government forces is fraught with problems and unlikely to meet the president’s deadline
