  2. Deaths Caused by the War. • American Deaths: 12,491 • American Wounded: 32,900, however estimated 100,000 wounded in combat • Iraqi Deaths: 1,421,933

  3. Iraqi Government • Parliamentary Democracy, election on March 7th 2010 • First party leader: Ayad Allawi (prime minister • 325 members of the council of representatives elected the prime minister and the president

Iraqi Culture • deBa’athification party is a strong socialist government opposite of western imperilization • Ba'athists also seized power in Iraq in 1963 • The Arab culture, as influenced by the conquerors in the seventh century • Iraqi Muslims are split into two, the Sunnis and the Shias. The Sunnis are a minority in Iraq, and the Shias, are the minority in the Arab world • Iraq's economy is characterized by heavy dependence on oil exports

  5. Iraqi Military • The military has been active since 1921and still continuing to be active • The size of the military is 970,000 troops • The headquarters is located in Baghdad

  6. Are our troops coming home? • President Obama announces remaining 50,000 U.S. troops in Iraq are going to come home by the end of 2011 • We hope that is true that we get our troops home but it doesn’t look like that’s working out to well. We still have so many troops over there and we don’t see to many coming home yet.
