  1. Vision Zero Is Coming To Los Angeles County

  2. You may have heard of Vision Zero, a global initiative that started in Sweden and has spread throughout the world. The plan’s goal is to end pedestrian traffic deaths. Los Angeles County is now launching its draft Vision Zero Action Plan that lays out plans for the first five years of the effort. Vision Zero forces state and community leaders to take a serious look at the safety concerns in and around roadways.

  3. How Bad Is The Problem? When people look at the statistics from the California Office of Traffic Safety, they can see so alarming numbers. For the latest full reporting year, there were: • 867 pedestrian crash fatalities • 14,215 pedestrian crash injuries • 147 bicycle crash fatalities • 11,634 bicycle crash injuries

  4. Closer to home, people know that traffic deaths are rising in LA County, particularly in unincorporated areas. Even though pedestrians walking only accounted for 9% of all collisions, they were involved in 20% of all fatal and serious injury collisions in the county. Almost all pedestrian crashes result in an injury or a fatality because the human body is so vulnerable.
