  2. Title : What Makesa Mammal? Introduction : This lesson will go into the differences between mammals and non-mammals. It will cover discriptions of mammals and how you can find out what kind of animal is in front of you. Students will look at zoo websites and determine if their favorite animal is a mammal. Subject : Science Topic : Animal Science Objectives : The student will be able to give characteristics of a mammal and point out one. The student will also be able to explain how they knew that what they pointed at was a mammal. Procedures: First I will explain to the students the characteristics of a mammal. During the lesson the students will first start on a computer, they will be looking at websites of zoos and pictures of animals. They will read captions and think about what is different between each animal. During this time I will be engaging the student, asking questions such as “What animal is that? Do you know if it is a mammal?” Then the students will draw their favorite animal and label it mammal or not. I will ask them “ How do you know if that is a mammal? Or Why is that not a mammal?” Their artwork will be displayed in the classroom. Evaluation Before: explain what a mammal is and ask for examples to see if they understand the concept.During: Walk through the classroom and ask the students what they are looking at and if they can identify the type of animal it is.After: Their pictures should have characteristics of a mammal if it is one (fur for example) Materials: Computers with internet, paper, crayons, zoo website acess

  11. Definitions • Pre-mature birth- to give birth before the baby is fully developed • Cold-blooded- needs to keep body warm or this animal will die. • Warm Blooded- can adjust to temperature
