  7. Fraunhofer TechBridge: Supporting Early-stage Tech StartupsProblem: Solution: We scope and execute projects to develop or de-risk early-stage technologies using Fraunhofer expertise (e.g., prototyping, testing, modeling, demonstration, road-mapping). Early-stage tech startups lack resources & expertise for prototyping, testing, piloting, etc. … But investors & industry partners need technical validation to invest or partner.

  8. Fraunhofer TechBridge: How it Works 1 • Funding: We raise funds from external sources to perform work on behalf of startups. We take no equity or cash from the startups. • Selection & Evaluation: We request proposals from the startup community. Technologies are evaluated by the TechBridge team and Fraunhofer domain experts. • Technical Project Work: The TechBridge team works with technical group leads to develop targeted projects to develop or de-risk selected technologies. Reports are provided at project completion. • Intellectual Property (IP): Startups’ IP is fully protected. Startup has option to license any IP developed during a Fraunhofer project

Has your lab engaged in technology development partnerships or technology validation with other third parties? If so, how could you see your lab translating this process to work with emerging companies? What would be your concerns about participating in a model like TechBridge to leverage your lab’s capabilities for technology validation and demonstration?
