  1. BC15168 GULF OF MEXICO COMPREHENSIVE SYNTHETIC BASED MUDS MONITORING PROGRAM ROV arm taking core • Fate & effect study to provide scientific basis for industry best practices & EPA regulatory decisions • Determine areal & time function extent of sediment contamination • Sediment toxicity • Benthic changes • Biodegradation & bioaccumulation • Joint Industry Project members: • 59 industry companies • API, DOE, EPA • Benefits of SBM • Savings in drilling time & costs: 56% average savings in 1 study • Reduced waste, power consumption, air pollution & landfill usage • Helps to inhibit gas hydrate formation in deepwater Core Rack Sub-sampling box core

  2. BC15168 GULF OF MEXICO COMPREHENSIVE SYNTHETIC BASED MUDS MONITORING PROGRAM SPI Camera • Deepwater development has risen >100,000 bo/p & >400 MMcf/d every year for last five years. • MMS forecasts daily deepwater oil production at 2-2.47 MM/b & gas at 10.97-16.39 Bcf by end of 2006. • In past 10 yrs, average deepwater field added >64 MM/boe of proved & unproved reserves; in depths of 1,500-7,499 – 73 MM/boe, 12X average shallow-water addition. • Estimated ultimate reserves: 71 B bbls/ boe of which 56.4 B to be discovered. • Currently 59% of GOM oil production comes from deepwater, 77% by 2006. Gas production from deepwater forecast to be 26% by 2006. Survey photo of seabed
