  8. Strategies for rabi crops management • To increase production & productivity • The Department will adopt System of Rice Intensification (SRI)- during pre-kharif, 2014 • More area will be brought under Pea, mustard, rabi maize and Pre-kharif paddy • Cultivation of Pea on Zero Tillage • Multiple Cropping – with a rice based cropping pattern of Rice – Rice – Mustard/Pea/Potato were taken of. • Wheat based cropping system of Rice – Soybean/Ricebean – Wheat • Seed Replacement for all crops increased. • Soil health management – through liming initiated. • Zero Tillage on rapeseeds & Mustard • Popularisation of rabi maize cultivation

  9. Crop Demonstration Mustard on Zero Tillage Yield: 1300-1450 Kg/ha Var. M-27 Rabi Maize Intercropped with Potato Var. (Maize): HQPM Yield: 2150 Kg/ha Var. Potato: K. Jyoti Yield: 11,500 Kg/ha

Pea on Zero Tillage : An Introduction A trial conducted – Pea on Zero Tillage Multi-locational trial in 4 (four) valley districts Field selection: Farmers Own Field Variety : Rachana, Aprana Seed Rate: 100 Kg/ha Method of Sowing: Broadcasting before harvesting of Paddy Nutrition: Recommended dose of fertilizers Plant Protection: Recommended Watering: Rainfed Yield: 700-800 Kg/ha Pea on Zero Tillage

Production Enhancement Initiatives • Establishment FFS on large Scale and also large scale demonstration on Production/Production Technology (at least one demonstration per village) • Transfer of technology on large scale through Extension Functionaries/Progressive farmers/ ATMA • Promotion of hybrid paddy through SRI and composite nurseries. • Availability of certified seeds so as to increase SRR • Reclamation of acid soil for sustainable agriculture

  12. Production Enhancement Initiatives • Promotion of pulses in upland paddy area and other fallow land . • Popularisation of Zero tillage of pea cultivation in the valley areas • To bring large areas under Zero tillage on mustard on the rice fallow land. • Farm ponds under RKVY and NFSM .

ISSUES ON SOIL HEALTH& CROP PRODUCTION • Soil Health – Acidity problem (pH below 5.3) • Seed – Seed treatment ( 58% treated, requires 100%) • Irrigation (farm ponds, sprinkler sets) • Post Harvest Management (improved Storage Structure) • Rice Fallow land (more than 50% of rice fields) • Marketing (No APMC in the State) • Credit (Less participation of Bank )

  14. SEED REPLACEMENT RATE (SRR) • Paddy : 59.58% • Maize : 41.24% • Soybean : 23.61% • Groundnut : 35.00% • Blackgram : 99.86% • Arhar : 100.00% • Moong : 99.59% • Pea : 32.05% • Rapeseed & Mustard : 90.91%

  15. Future Prospects for Food grain production The Department of Agriculture review the strategy for sustaining the present level of Agriculture Growth in each meeting. Crop Loan/KCC through NABARD State Govt. establishing Custom Service Centers Micro Irrigation for pulse production Buffer stocking of fertilizers Strengthening of Seed Certification Programme 50% of area under paddy cultivation to be brought under SRI during next 2 years.

  16. Future Prospects for Food grain production Area under hybrid Maize to be increased by 20% in the next Kharif season by providing 90% subsidy to SC/ST farmers. Intensive planning for promotion of summer Moong, Urad and maize Establishment of State Agriculture marketing Board Soil Testing Lab to be established at all the Divisional Head Quarters to ensure quality of inputs. Mobile Soil Testing Van facility will be available in all districts
