  2. Bible Study – Book of Obadiah • Obadiah means “Servant (or worshiper) of the Lord” Family Feuds To Bitter History: 1. The Edomites were descendants of Esau. They lived in an area from the southern end of the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Akaba. They were always bitter enemies of Judah and Israel. 2. Edom, proud over her own security, has gloated over Israel's devastation by foreign powers. Edom's participation in that disaster will bring on God's wrath.

  3. Geography of Obadiah

  4. Bible Study – Book of Obadiah • The date of this book is disputed to one of two specific events in Israel's history. 1. The invasion of Jerusalem by Philistines and Arabs during the reign of King Jehoram (853-841 BC); (cf. 2 Kings 8:20-22; 2 Chronicles 21:8-20). In this case, Obadiah would be a contemporary of the prophet Elisha. 2. The Babyionian attacks on Jerusalem (605-586 BC) If we take this date then Obadiah would be a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah. For our study we will take this second date.

  5. Bible Study – Book of Obadiah Causes for God’s Wrath Against Edom: 1. Pride because of their safety and security. 2. Pride because of their hidden treasures.3. Pride because of their allies4.
