The Need for a Savior TITLE: The Need for a Savior PROPOSITION: Man needs a savior because 1) Man has a sin problem, 2) Man cannot set his own terms of pardon, and 3) Man needs someone who can mediate before God on behalf of man. OBJECTIVES: Each of us should be able to teach others the problem of sin, the reason we can't remedy this situation, and what it was that Jesus did to remedy this situation for us. AIM: To help each person understand the role of the savior in God's plan for man's salvation.

  3. The Need for a Savior Why do we need a savior? Man has a sin problem Where did sin first start? God first promised to deal with the problem of sin The consequences of sin Man Cannot set his own terms of righteousness Jesus came to provide a plan of righteousness for us. Man needs a savior that can mediate before God on behalf of man. One who can approach God. One who can bear the sins of man.

  5. The Need for a Savior - Today Let’s be honest, Have you looked at other people struggling with sin, with habits, with failures and said to yourself, “I'm glad I'm a Christian.” or, “I'm glad I've gotten the victory over the problems that that poor brother is struggling with.”

  6. The Need for a Savior Or have you sometimes catch yourself doing this when you read Scripture. You read of Sampson's failures and think that I would never have done that. Or read of David or Solomon's failures and pat yourself on the back because I would have never done that.

  7. The Need for a Savior The truth is that we are no better than anyone. We are just as sinful and just as susceptible to failure as any one of the great men or women of faith who faced a failure. Sometimes we find ourselves patting ourselves on the back because we've never been guilty of financial irresponsibility, or of having an affair, or of lying, cheating or stealing since becoming a Christian. We should realize that the only thing standing between youand the worst sinner to ever walk the face of the earth, is yourrelationship with yourSavior.

  8. The Need for a Savior Psalm 51:5-6 (NIV) 5 Surely I was sinful at birth,    sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;    you taught me wisdom in that secret place

  9. The Need for a Savior Yes we are saved, Yes we have Grace and filled with the Holy Spirit, but we still live with a day by day dependency upon a Risen Savior who is the word , and we know that He is with us. Simply put, that regardless of where we are on this journey, We still need a Savior.

  10. The Need for a Savior The Birth of the Need for a Savior The human need for a savior was birthed in a garden. Not just any garden, but a perfect garden, a garden prepared by God Himself for His ultimate creation. God prepared a garden called Eden to be the home of the only created thing to embody the image and likeness of God Himself, that being, humanity.

  11. The Need for a Savior Genesis 1:26 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

  12. The Need for a Savior When we read and teach about this garden, this perfect place, and wonder if I had been Adam or Eve, Would I have sinned ?. Would I have succumbed to temptation? Would I have maintained moral purity and remained righteous before God?

  13. The Need for a Savior Whatever your answer is , God knows our hearts; because we are Adam. 1 Corinthians 15:22-23 (NIV) 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

  14. The Need for a Savior We were all with Adam in the Garden. He represented us all. Rom 5:12 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

  15. The Need for a Savior Notice what Paul is saying here, “by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world . . . and so death passed upon all men, FOR that ALL HAVE SINNED.” That means us. We have sinned. If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and His Word is not in me (1 Jn. 1:10).

  16. The Need for a Savior 1 John 1:10 (NIV) 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

  17. The Need for a Savior We have stood at the tree with the forbidden fruit stretch towards us. We have faced the decision to do right or wrong, to obey or disobey, and we sometimes choose sin. With everything we needed standing right before us, we choose the wrong way, we have failed, we have fell, and we forsook God's will.

  18. The Need for a Savior We don't need self-help tapes and books; We need a Savior. We don't need another religious guru; We need a Savior. We don't need to numb our guilt in drugs or drink; We need a Savior! The excuses are hollow and worthless. Pointing fingers at others for our mistakes does nothing. We have to say it; We have to shout it—WE NEED A SAVIOR!

  19. The Need for a Savior Until we come to this point, until we acknowledge this fact, we are simply running naked through the garden trying to hide from God. The justice of God must be exacted. Blood has to be shed. The innocent must die for the guilty. Someone who is righteous, and able to do what I am powerless to do must right my wrong. We need a Savior. My burden is too heavy, my condemnation too severe, conscience too stricken; We need a Savior!

  21. The Need for a Savior The early Christians did not expect people to come to them to hear the Gospel; they went out to share with all who would receive. We have no right to expect or insist that people come to church to hear the good news of Jesus, so we must share the Gospel with people where they are. Therefore, we need to be involved with the community at large.

The Need for a Savior Abducted teen, alleged gunman arrested in Antioch robbery ANTIOCH -- The 16-year-old and his adult accomplice had planned the brazen heist and staged kidnapping for a week. They plotted the best time to rob the barbershop, when the owner would have the most cash on hand, and where they could find it. Together, they would make off with the shop owner's 1996 GMC Yukon, which the teen knew had secret compartments for hiding cash, according to the Antioch police account of the boy's confession.

  25. The Need for a Savior More than likely, you've heard the story in the book of Luke of the chief tax collector, a man named Zacchaeus. As you read this story, you come to realize that Zacchaeus illustrates four basic weaknesses and needs of every human heart: the feeling of emptiness, the feeling of loneliness, the weight of guilt, and the fear of death.There really are some great life-lessons we can learn as we look at this man

The Need for a Savior Luke 19:1-10 (NIV) Zacchaeus the Tax Collector  1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

  27. The Need for a Savior 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.  7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

  28. The Need for a Savior 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”  9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

  29. The Need for a Savior Zacchaeus was a wealthy man in his day, but he was empty inside. His story is a great reminder that it doesn't matter how well off you are financially or physically, there is a need deep within every human heart to be filled with something that will last...something that will fill that emptiness we feel in our soul..

  30. The Need for a Savior We were made to know God, to love God, to experience grace, and to know true, saving faith in Him. It doesn't matter how much money you have...how much status you achieve...or how many things you have. You need God because you were made to know Him...just like Zacchaeus was

  31. The Need for a Savior But Zacchaeus had another problem. He was lonely. He was a Jew working for the Romans to collect taxes, one of the most hated professions of that day.Perhaps he was skimming off the top, swindling and scandalizing his friends. Zacchaeus was a man who seemingly had no conscience--and no friends. He was an outcast of society! As many who turn to a life of crime & drugs are today.

  32. The Need for a Savior We were made to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, so we naturally feel lonely without Him. And this is how Zacchaeus felt.Along with that loneliness, Zacchaeus carried around a huge weight of guilt...a feeling everyone experiences.

  33. The Need for a Savior Some people try to numb the pain of guilt with excessive alcohol consumption, illicit drug use, or unhealthy relationships. But no matter how you try to hide it...no matter how far you may try to run, you will never be able to dissolve that sense of guilt apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ.

  34. The Need for a Savior This is the need of all humanity. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no not one. Without, Jesus Christ, we are all hopeless and lost. Without this Savior we are “wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Rev. 3:17). Without this Savior we still running naked through the garden trying to hide from our father and trying to cover our shame with the works of our hands. We need a Savior.

  35. The Need for a Savior Just like anyone who doesn't have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Zacchaeus was afraid to die. And while most people don't admit this fact, it's true.Even though many considered Zacchaeus a waste case, Jesus knew that he was empty and lonely...Jesus knew that he felt guilty...and Jesus knew that he was afraid to die. And that's why Jesus stopped and went to his house!

  36. The Need for a Savior Whatever our station may be today...good, bad, rich or poor...If we can offer hope to one person to let them know that what God is offering you through Jesus Christ. We should do it.Because through Jesus they can indeed know fullness for their emptiness, forgiveness for their guilt, and intimacy with God for their loneliness. And through Him they have the ultimate victory, the victory over death. "And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." - John 17:3

The Need for a Savior Read: Acts 8:4 �Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.� In the book of Acts we could simply take the chapters and verses of Acts and go from example to example of evangelism. This verse in Acts 8:4 would give us our primary example of all Christians doing evangelism.

  39. The Need for a Savior We could look at Peter, John, Stephen, Philip, Dorcas, Barnabas, Ananias, Paul, Timothy, Titus, and etc. Instead of looking simply at examples of evangelism, let's look at examples of specific characteristics in evangelism.

  40. The Need for a Savior Noah in Obedience How would you like to have been Noah? Noah was a preacher of righteousness according to 2 Peter 2:5. He was an evangelist in the general sense of the word. God comes to you one day and says,

  41. The Need for a Savior �The end of all flesh is come before me� (Genesis 6:13). Build thee an ark of gopher wood.� (Genesis 6:14). �I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh� (Genesis 6:17). But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons� wives with thee.� (Genesis 6:18)

  42. The Need for a Savior Do you think Noah questioned God's commands? Do you think Noah said, �You know, God, I've really got some other things that need to get done� Do you think Noah said, �Well, God, building arks just isn't my talent�? �

  43. The Need for a Savior Genesis 6:22 �Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.� You see, Noah's continued existence depended upon his doing exactly what God told him to do. He didn't play around with God's commands. He was obedient.

  44. The Need for a Savior Our eternal existence depends upon our doing what God has told us to do. Are we obeying God like Noah? What a great example of obedience in evangelism! He didn't save the souls of any others outside his family, but he saved them!

  45. The Need for a Savior Paul in Endurance In the book of 2 Timothy. The keyword of the book is �endure.� 1 Corinthians 4:12 �and we toil, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure.� 2 Timothy 2:10 �Therefore I endure all things for the elects sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.�

  46. The Need for a Savior 2 Timothy 2:12 �if we endure, we shall also reign with him: if we shall deny him, he also will deny us.� 2 Timothy 3:11 �...What things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.�

  47. The Need for a Savior 2 Timothy 4:7-8 �I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing.� If we are going to evangelize the world, then we need to follow Paul's example of endurance.

  48. The Need for a Savior What can we do? What should we do?

  49. The Need for a Savior In these days of financial stresses and deep depressions, help and encouragement is one of the best things that we can do for each other. Often churches are seeking fresh ideas on how to help their community. Outreach is something we all can do These are some things that some have found to be helpful in community. You can try them all or just start with one or two. The most important part is you need to get started.

  50. The Need for a Savior 1. Adopting a family or young person Be a friend by inviting them to lunch or over for dinner. Become a mentor someone they can talk to either good or bad. Encourage them, and take interest in their progress, Provide scriptural guidance that they can relate to. Brother John & Sister Debra Davis
