  3. Objectives • Students will be able to define a noun, a verb and an adjective. • Students will be able to identify nouns, adjectives and verbs. • Students will be able to identify the different parts of speech within a sentence.

  4. What is a noun? • A noun is a word that identifies a person, a place or a thing. Here are some examples of nouns! • dog • Syracuse • mother • New York • apple • United States of America • school • teacher • Miss Stooks • Wegmans

  5. What are the nouns in this sentence? • The beautiful bride married the handsome groom. bride, groom

  6. What is a verb? • A verb is a word that identifies any action (past, present or future). Here are some examples of verbs! • run • walk • eat • dancing • play • shopped • loves • think • sleeping • went

  7. What are the verbs in this sentence? • The friendly teacher greeted her students as they walked through the door. Click on the picture to find out!

  19. Listening Activity Listen to the audio clip. On a separate sheet of paper make a chart for nouns, verbs and adjectives. While listening, record all of the nouns, verbs and adjectives you hear. You may listen to this clip more than once.

  20. Journal Activity Reflect on this PowerPoint and write down the definitions of a noun, a verb and an adjective. Also, provide at least three examples of each.
