The Great Wall of china is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in northern China, built originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups. The Shēngxiāo, better known in English as the Chinese Zodiac, is a scheme that relates each year to an animal and its reputed attributes, according to a 12-year mathematical cycle. It has wide currency in several East Asian countries such as Korea and Japan.

  3. Martial Arts • Chinese Martial Arts are the most traditional martial arts in the world as they existed prior to the 12th century. Chinese Martial Arts includehundreds of different styles and it is undoubtedly the most versatile martial art in the world.

  4. Facts • The Chinese year is based on the cycles of the moon. This is called a lunar schedule. A complete cycle of  the Chinese calendar takes 60 years. The Chinese calendar dates back to  2600 B.C. It is the oldest known calendar. • Each year is represented by an animal.  There are twelve animals which represent the twelve months.  • When a Chinese child loses a baby tooth, it doesn't get tucked under the pillow for the tooth fairy. If the child loses an upper tooth, the child's parents plant the tooth in the ground.

  6. Themes of the book • One of the themes of the book is sadness. A 5 year old girl has to get her feet bound, but she doesn’t want to. She already knows the man that she is going to married when she grows up. She hides a lot because she doesn’t want her feet to be bound. This book is really sad, but is a very good book to read.

  7. What fascinates me about the culture in this book? The craziest thing in china is how they cant have more than 1 baby. The Chinese girls have to get their feet bound when their little. The dragon is very important animal for Chinese people is a traditional animal.

  8. If i was the main character... • If I was the main character I would ran away from china before she did. I would come back when I was an older man, not like Ailin she stayed there until she was 18. I would come back after I finished college to help other kids like Ailin.

  9. Alternative ending • Ailin gets married with Xiutoyna, prince of Japan. She doesn’t care about China and her family anymore. She starts a new life in Japan, Ailin becomes the queen of Japan when Xiutoyna dies. Ailin dies at the age of 58 years old, she had a heart attack.
