  1. ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS By Aisha Al Hajeri, NourChehabeddine, Paula Fronda, Sana Samhouri, Caitlin Taylor

  2. DEFORESTATION • What is deforestation? It’s the removal of trees mostly because of human activities. • How much paper do you use a day? Can you think of where this paper might come from? • What can we do to help?-RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE.-Plant a new tree for every one we cut down.-Always check your desks for scrap paper. Don’t just throw it away! What else you YOU think we could do?

  3. WATER CONSERVATION • How many of you keep the water running while you brush your teeth? • 97% of the world's water is salty or undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in ice caps and glaciers. That leaves just 1% for consumption by all living creatures, including plants and animals. • 31.41 gallons a day and about 11,465.06 gallons a year (and olympic swimming pools holds about 600,000 gallons!) • Water-saving tips: -Wash your fruits/veggies in a bowl of water rather than running water.-In the shower, turn off the tap when shampooing.-Don’t waste water! Desalination of water is a long and expensive process!

  4. WHAT IS POLLUTION? It’s introducing contaminants into an environment that cause problems and ruin the ecosystem.

  5. ELECTRICITY • How many of you keep the lights on when you leave a room, or accidentally sleep with the TV on? • Too much electricity usage isn’t only dangerous, but it also makes powerhouses (electricity factories) release tons of carbon dioxide into the air.

  6. AIR POLLUTION From the video we watched, what does air pollution look like to you? Where does it come from?-Cars, factories, fertilizers (methane), aerosol cans (even hairspray!) So what exactly is global warming anyway?

  7. GLOBAL WARMING

  8. FUN FACTS  • Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch a TV for three hours. • Only 11% of the earth's surface is used to grow food. • If every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year. • If everyone in the US flushed the toilet just one less time per day, we could save a lake full of water about one mile long, one mile wide and four feet deep.
