  1. Fire OfficerStrategy and Tactics(FOST) State Certification Practical Examination PART “A” May 2009

FOST Part “A” • To complete Part “A” of the practical exam you will complete 4 out of the 6 NFA Online Simulations. • They must be completed and turned in to the Lead Evaluator prior to your State Written Exam. • You need to have access to a computer with high speed internet capacity, and a printer.

  3. FOST Part “A” • You can find the NFA Online website at; www.nfaonline.dhs.gov/browse/index.shtm • You need to be registered with the NFA before entering the NFA Online site. • After going to the login page, Click on: • NEW STUDENTS CLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW! • Follow the directions and answer the questions. You will be sent by email your user name and temporary password. You may then log into the system.

  4. FOST Part “A” • You need to have copies of the forms to be completed for each simulation. • The forms are; • Size up worksheet • Fire flow calculation worksheet • Strategy & Tactical Direction Worksheet • Organization Assignment List • ICS Organizational layout

  5. First Time Logging Into NFA Online? Initial Log In: After you have registered as a “New Student” you will receive a User ID and Password. Your User ID will never change. The initial password you receive is temporary. When you log in for the first time using this password, the system will immediately prompt you to create your own. 1. In the User ID box enter your User ID. (Use All CAPS!) • In the Password box enter the temporary password provided in the email. (Passwords are case sensitive!) 3. Click the Login button. Changing Your Password: Remember, NFA Online automatically prompts you to change your temporary password after your initial log on. 1. Enter your temporary password in the Old Password box. • Create your new password using the guidance provided. Enter the new password in the New Password box. 3. Re-enter your new password in the Verify Password box 4. Click the Apply Changes button. 5. Log in again using new password. Security Question: By entering a security question you enable the system to automatically provide you with your User ID and a new Password if forgotten. • Enter a question in the Security Question box. • Enter the answer twice. 3. Click the Submit button.

Go to log on screen. 2. Click link to receive new password. 3. Enter User ID. • Click submit. (A new password will be sent to your email) Forgotten User ID: 1. Go to log on screen. 2. Click link to retrieve User ID. 3. Enter your email. • Click submit. (Your User ID will be displayed)

NFA Online Web Site • Once you have completed login procedures, bring up the specific simulation you want to complete. • Open and successfully complete each simulation • Fill out the required forms as you complete each simulation. • If you make too many mistakes, the simulation program will lockup or advise you have failed • You must restart the simulation from the start

  8. After completing the simulation • If you successfully complete the simulation it will inform you that you have passed at the end. • Close the simulation and complete the feedback survey to receive credit. • This is a critical step – if you fail to complete this step your effort will not be recorded. • Go to“Records”at the top of the onlinepage. Go toCertificates of CompletionorTranscript with CEU'sand printthe list showing the simulations you have successfully completed.

  9. After completing the simulation • You will need to hand in the copy of completed simulations record and the five forms completed for each simulation to the Lead Evaluator.
