  2. Temperature It is usually very hot, and has a temperature range of 68° to 86° F . In the winter it ranges from 68° to 78° F . In the summer it ranges from 78° to 86° F. The temperature does not change a lot. When it does, its very gradual and not drastic.

  3. Precipitation There is an annual precipitation of 10 to 30 inches of rain. From December to February there is little or no rain fall.

  4. Global Locations Grasslands are located on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Some locations of savannas include: Africa - Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, and Namibia Australia Central America - Belize and Honduras South America - Venezuela and Columbia Southern Asia

  5. Seasons / Elevation The altitude ranges from sea level to 2 000 meters. Tropical grasslands are warm year round, but usually have a dry and rainy season. The dry season is very long and hot with a high risk of fires followed by short rainy seasons.

  6. Plants • Blue Grama Grass • Indian Grass • Purple Coneflower • Milkweed • Fleabane

  7. Blue Grama Grass! Warm seasoned tufted perennial grass. Makes up 75% to (0% of the grasses found in grasslands. Can grow up to 18 inches tall. Has leaves that can grow from 1 to 10 inches long and 18 inches wide. Grows as a bunch of grass. Has flat leaves that come to a point at the end. Likes to grow in full sun with well – drained soil, and can stand drought, heat, cold and mowing.

  8. ~Milkweed~ Milkweed is a herb. Produces red and yellow blossoms in the spring which are less than an inch across. Has a white poisonous sap. Can grow to be 2 to 3 ½ feet.

  9. Purple Coneflower The purple Coneflower has a reddish center and purple, red or white petals that hang down. It can grow to be 2 – 3 feet tall. The center can grow to be the size of a child's fist. The petals are about as long as the diameter of the center.

  10. Fleabane • Have hairy, alternate leaves that can be oval or lance – shaped with a pointed tip. • They can grow up to be 6 inches long, and 2 inches wide. • Fleabanes look like daisies. • They have 100 ray – like petals that can be white or pinkish.

  11. Indian Grass • Known as a warm season grass and will start growing in May. • Has yellow spikelet's (seed heads) that have white hairs, which make it look silver and gold in sunlight. • Has long, flat, and narrow leaves that usually are called blades. • The blades are ¼ to ½ wide, 5 to 12 feet long and pointed at the ends.

  13. Pronghorn They eat grass Their habitat is an open prairie, and desert. They are active during the day. Feeds in the morning and night.

  14. Lion They eat large mammals, and also smaller mammals, and birds. They are carnivores. Their habitat is open savanna.

  15. African Elephant They eat mostly leaves. Their habitat is forest, and a savanna. They consume up to 440 lb of plant!

  16. Giraffe They eat leaves, buds, and fruit. Their habitat is savanna. They have long legs, and neck, and stands up to be 3.3 m tall. They like to rest in the shade. At night lie down for a couple hours of hours or rest standing.

  17. Warthog • They eat grass. • Their habitat is a savanna, or treeless open plains.
