  1. Basic Structure of a Research Article • Why am I am doing this? Why should you be interested? • What did I do – top level questions, goals of paper? • Who else has done similar things? How does my work fit in? How did I go about answering my questions: (details) : • A. sample, research method • b. Data collection • c. Analysis • What did I find? • How do the findings answer my top level questions? • Summary/conclusion/future work Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  2. 1. Introduction (current status, concerns, motivation, aim of this paper) Current scenario in education – traditional + distance Education for overall development ICT in distance education Formative and summative evaluation to measure cognitive and psychomotor domains Affective domain? - learning to inculcate scientific thinking and logical reasoning , to bring out the hidden talent of the learner Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  3. 2. Review of related literature (To write this section) • Mention a few studies relevant to your area ONLY • Include studies with positive + neutral + negative results • Need (why) - List out the questions here • To find out the effectiveness of method used --- affective domain • Correlation between use of ICT and development of affective domain • Scope & Limitation Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  4. 2. Review of related literature(to know what already exists & identify the gaps) • HOW TO DO A LITERATURE SURVEY • - Know your Title (A MUST) to identify the keywords • Eg: ICT in distance education, blended learning , affective domain & distance education ; IGNOU (video recorded courses and contact study ) • Look at thesaurus for similar terms Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  5. 2. Review of related literature (Conti....) HOW TO DO A LITERATURE SURVEY • Comprehensive, covering the main contributors to the field with an exploration of their views. Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  6. 2. Review of related literature (Conti....) • Features : • Organized around issues, themes, factors, or variables related directly to your question; • Provides a good synthesis of what is, and is not known; • It indicates the theoretical framework with which you are working; • It identifies the list of the authors that are engaged similar work. 7. 2. Review of related literature (Conti....) • Resources : • Journal ( refer library database) • Conference Papers • E-database ( web of science -> central library) • Internet ( ERIC – www.wric.in.gov) • Dissertation /Theses • Newsletters • Publications • Books • Reference Material Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  8. 3. Methodology (procedure followed, population/sample size, tool used to collect the data) • Teaching strategy (learn centered) followed in the class – watch VOD, Ask a Question, Interaction in the class… • Sample – Entire class; small group • Course- CL 692 • Demographic features- • discipline wise • prior experience Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  9. 3. Methodology (procedure followed, population/sample size, tool used to collect the data) • Tool used – rating scale (5pt) , interview , observation, (pre and post questionnaire) • Qualitative and Quantitative • Questions on VOD and MOODLE • Classify the items into the categories • Explain the use of the tool Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  10. 4. Results(responses, Analysis) • Results in percentile for VOD in table support by graph • Results in percentile for MOODLE in table support with graph • Plot graph wrt – discipline , work experience, … • Describe the variables and its effect on the data • Analyze the results wrt to the objective of the study • Mention any other special /noticeable observation • The whole structure of a paper is built around the results Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  11. 5. Interpretations /Discussion • Main findings • Discuss the results wrt the prior studies • Discuss the implementations of findings Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  12. 6. Conclusion • Mention the scope and the limitations • Suggest the other possible study Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  13. 7.AcknowledgementThank you (1 para: 2-3 lines only if space is problem) • MHRD!!!! • People without whom your study could not have worked. Example: Prof Kannan AND HIS STUDENTS for Madhulika’s work • Other admin : eg CDEEP • Other people who gave comments etc: Eg: Oscar team Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  14. T4E 2010 • Full papers: 6-8 pages. • Contain: • detailed descriptions of research, • development, • applications and other aspects related to the conference themes. • These papers should preferably be accompanied by a poster • Short papers: 3-4 pages • Brief presentations of technologies developed, techniques used or results of research. These papers are to be accompanied by a poster Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal

  16. ICTE 2010 • Article Types for Submission:All submitted formatted full-text articles should report original, previously unpublished research results, experimental or theoretical.a-) Regular Research Articles:These articles should describe new and carefully confirmed findings, and experimental procedures should be given in sufficient detail for others to verify the work. • The length of a full text article should be the minimum required to describe and interpret the work clearly.b-) Short Research Communications: A short communication article is suitablefor recording the results of complete small investigations or giving details of new models or hypotheses, innovative methods, techniques or apparatus. • The style of main sections need not conform to that of full-length papers. Short communications are 4 to 6 printed pages in length.c-) Research Poster Articles: These articles should describenew and carefully confirmed findings, and experimental procedures should be given in sufficient detail for others to verify the work. • The length of a full text article should be the minimum required to describe and interpret the work clearly Basic Structure of a Research Article 02/10/2010 MadhulikaGoyal
