  1. Knowledge of Agents In Language and Action A model derived from studies of psychopathology and current models in language and action

  2. Forward “I hope you like what I have to say today” -T. Nathan Mundhenk

  3. Goal of Model • Account for agent knowledge in humans • Account for link between grasping and language with similar models • Account for symptoms in Schizophrenia, alien hand sign disorders, Parkinson's, etc. • Try to agree with current accepted models

  4. Pertinent symptoms of Schizophrenia • Difficulties with Kamin Blocking, Latent Inhibition and other types of associative learning • Difficulties with understanding the abstract syntactical pattern in language • Hearing voices that are the result of Broca generated sub-lingual vocalization • Difficulties in grasping error control in the absence of visual feedback • Having delusions that other people or aliens are moving their limbs for them • Being treated by dopamine antagonists to the point of displaying parkinsonian symptoms

  5. Alien Hand Sign “ The literature seems to describe distinct forms of alien hand. All share the occurrence of involuntary movements contrary to the patient’s stated intent, but the types of movement differ. In the callosal form, there are purposeful movements of the non-dominant hand. In the frontal (lobe) form, there is grasping and utilization behavior of the dominant hand. In the corticobasal degeneration, there are aimless movements of either hand.” Inzeberg et al, 2000

  6. Loss of Gray Matter in Schizophrenia Thompson P. M., Vidal C., Rapoport J. L., et al, 2001

  7. Other models to consider

  8. Model of Error Feedback and Agency in Language (MEFAL)

  9. Model of Error Feedback and Agency in Grasping (MEFAG)

  10. Schizophrenia in play and model comparisons

  11. Discussion • The model would predict that delusions of influence depend on visual feedback • The model predicts that the role of dopamine is misunderstood in current literature • The model has similar systems ,but not exactly the same • The model should account for AVH and delusions of influence as well as alien hand sign • The model does not disagree with any current major model reviewed
