Cultural Identity Essays • When you get your essay back, look over the rubric and your essay. • Common reasons for missing points include • Lack of focus or central idea • Vague or overly general explanation of your cultural identity • Poor or inconsistent flow and readability • Major grammatical mistakes (i.e. multiple run-on sentences or fragments)

  3. “Everyday Use” • Turn in your answers for the questions over “Everyday Use.” • Fill in the SIFT chart on page 66.

  4. “My Mother Pieced Quilts” and “Everyday Use” • Review your SIFT charts for “My Mother Pieced Quilts” and “Everyday Use” and highlight similarities. • Looking over the information you have on your chart or diagram, generate an interpretive statement you could use in your essay. • _____ in both essays clearly conveys that culture has _____ impact on one’s view of the world. • Culture _____ impacts one’s view of the world, which is best seen by _____ in both texts. • Turn in your SIFT charts, diagrams, and statements.

  6. “Two Ways to Belong in America” • Read the article “Two Ways to Belong in America” on pages 70-72 and answer the questions on the worksheet. • For multiple choice questions, write a brief justification for your answer. • Takes notes over “Two Ways” to prepare for EA 2.
