What is Educational Technology? • From wikipedia (it’s actually been edited since I grabbed this definition) -- Educational technologyis the use of technology in education to improve learning and teaching. Educational technology is often associated with instructional technology or learning technology, educational technology is a broader term that encompasses the other two. • I prefer: technology in education, for what it’s worth (fwiw). • Tech ED is “the study of computers and their functions.” • “Tech Ed” is also a specialized curriculum in middle and high school that focuses on the use of technology in industry.

Computer Literacy & Information Literacy • What is literacy? • Computer Literacy • A knowledge and understanding of computers and their uses. • Information Literacy • Knowing how to find, analyze, and use information. • Gather Information from multiple sources • Select Relevant Material • Organize it into a form that can be used for decision making

  4. Integration Literacy • The ability to use computers (and other technologies) combined with a variety of teaching & learning strategies to enhance learning.

Why Use Computer Technology In Education?

  8. Computers as tools for students • Students can track their progress • Research through the internet • Preparation of papers, presentations, and projects • Going beyond the “classroom walls” • Communication with other students and experts • Much depends on the teachers they have.

  9. Guidelines For Computer Usage in Education • The technology must fit the curriculum • Concentrate on instructional outcomes not the technology • Focus on the collaboration of students with the technology toward learning • Learning is always the focus!
