Engaging Elementary Teachers in Authentic Math and Science | ETEAMS

ETEAMS is a 3-year, $1.5 million partnership between Texas A&M University and Corpus Christi Independent School District. We aim to develop STEM talent and achievement by providing authentic math and science experiences for grades 4-8 students and teachers in economically disadvantaged urban schools.

  2. ETEAMS is a 3- year, $1.5 million Targeted Math & Science Partnership from the National Science Foundation, between Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi Independent School District. Elementary Teachers Engaged in Authentic Math and Science

  3. Our guidingpurpose is to support an inclusive culture of STEM success by developing STEM talent and achievement through authentic and relevant experiences involving grades 4-8 students and teachers in economically disadvantaged urban schools

  4. • STEM Thursdays - Students and teachers participate in engaging science and math experiences led by university scientists and mathematicians. • Authentic Science Research - Pre-service and in-service teachers will participate in original science research with university researchers. Participants will not only learn about science, they will become scientists as they work in the field and lab. • Highly Qualified Math & Science Teachers – Year long workshops will help both pre-service and in-service teachers add a grades 4-8 math or 4-8 science teaching certification What is ETEAMS?

  6. What’s in a Gallon? http://eteamscc.com/2014/whats-in-a-gallon/ ENGAGE: Students watch a NASA video on water, showing how astronauts brush their teeth in space. EXPLORE: Students use measuring cups, pints, quarts and gallons of water to discover equivalencies. EXPLAIN: Students collaborate to create Gallon Man astronauts as a graphic organizer. ELABORATE: Students create process charts and solve multi-step word problems. EVALUATE: Students write on post-its what they have learned.
