  3. We all have a role to play • We need to look at what we can solve together • Poverty is relative to our community • Greece poorer than USA but better health • We are failing to address inequalities gap is growing

Psychosocial risk factors • Social status / friendship / early life • Social self – self esteem is important • People who are excluded more vulnerable • Tackle deprivation it will improve health / crime / education • We have a choice to i.e think like monkey! • Need to respect people – make them feel valued.

Practical examples – DARD unlikely suspect in Health Improvement • Poverty - Change Management Programme • Skills – re-skilling / capacity building • Emotional – Rural Stress • Environment – alternative land use • Neighbourhoods – Rural Development projects • Accidents – Seeds for Change • Choices – RAFAEL / Blooming Health

  6. Health Promoting Homes • Simple idea to target obesity in home setting • Community engagement Surestart • Statutory Partners such as Council • Private Sector in kind • Innovative / integrated • Reach high risk / vulnerable • Learning model

  7. Home Safety • Simple idea to target safety in home • Statutory lead – Western Group EHO • Community support • Reach vulnerable homes • Learning model Both demonstrate partnership / engagement / effectiveness / innovation / value for money
