  1. The Power of Hope The confident expectation of good

  2. Romans 8:24 • For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

  3. The importance of HOPE as an ingredient of life is beyond calculation. What else will bring us through hard times?

  4. The Need for Hope is seen… • In different counseling therapies • In how disappointment turns to depression • The rise of medicated emotionalism

  5. Ephesians 2:11-12 • Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

  6. The Need for Hope is seen… • In different counseling therapies • In how disappointment turns to depression • The rise of medicated emotionalism • The teen suicide rate • Escapism, demonstrated in drugs, alcohol, and entertainment Hope is a… MOVER, A CHANGER, A MOTIVATOR, AND EMPOWERING!!

  7. Hebrews 6:19 • This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast ...

  8. Acts 16:25 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 • But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.  • About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,  Hope is a light in the darkness, strength in weakness

  9. Hope Proceeds from Many Directions • Reincarnation • “Claimed” Holy Books • Feelings / emotions • But the Christian’s hope proceeds from God. 2 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

  10. Romans 5:4-5 1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” …and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. This hope does not disappoint or shame us It is sustained by diligently seeking God

  11. What is the Result of True Hope? • The steadying influence of an anchor • The motivation to strength and faithfulness

  12. Romans 15:13 • May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

  13. What is the Result of True Hope? • The steadying influence of an anchor • The motivation to strength and faithfulness • Brings joy and peace, (spiritual growth) • Confidence in one’s salvation

  14. Confidence in One’s Salvation is Increased Because it is based in … Titus 1:2  …in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began  1 Peter 1:18-19 …knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Peter 1:22-25 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grassand all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. Christ’s blood God’s Word God’s promise

  15. We have before us several paths, all of which are life affecting To be born again to a living hope, or not… 1 Peter 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

  16. We have before us several paths, all of which are life affecting • To be born again to a living hope, or not… • Rejoice in hope… • Put aside doubt, anxiety, fear • Praise God for his mercy and power to us • Thank him for our inheritance reserved and safe in heaven • or don’t… Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.  WHAT WILL BE YOUR CHOICE?
