    4. Scale of the problem The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) estimates that the total cost of suicides in 2003 was more than 11m, @ 61,000 per suicide. Between 1st and 20th March 06 the average impact of a suicide was 77 trains affected, resulting in 1489 delay minutes. The British Transport Police aim to reopen a line within 90 minutes of receiving an incident report.

Recent incident 10/031040NRRCM - Driver reports that as he approached Robinswood Xing (closed xing locked OOU) the individual was on the upside on the Xing and as his train approached the individual dived under his train, the Driver was braking for the Jnc Signal into Gloucester Station at the time, the Driver has stated in his opinion the individual intended to dive under the train. The Driver has also gone back and located the body which is at G264/G364 signal.     9. West Country There have been 47 recorded suicide incidents since 2005. Approx 25,066 delay minutes. Approx 841,829 delay costs.

    11. What types of location are likely to be hotspots? High-risk places are those that provide opportunities for suicide by: Jumping from a height Placing oneself in front of a moving vehicle Other methods, particularly car exhaust poisoning
