  7. Tips for being a successful student • On time work is work that gets the grade and pay • Most college courses will not accept late work and many jobs will not tolerate continuous late arrivals. • Credit where credit is due • If you do “A” work you will get “A” credit, If you do “D” work you get “D” credit. Most college course will not allow extra credit to make up for inadequate work. • You must be present to be presented with the education you paid for. • Most college policies will apply a grade drop for minimum grade attendance. You are expected to attend classes as you would for the job you are learning to do. • If you fail to plan, plan to fail • In college you are expected to know how to plan for emergencies and have back up alternatives when life does not go as planned while you are attending college. • Ex. Leave earlier in case of traffic to be on time for class • Ex. Have a back up babysitter in case your regular gets sick or goes on vacation • Ex. Always bring a back-up method of technology if you are presenting • While hand holding is an affectionate expression of a positive relationship, it does not apply to the educational setting. • As a college student you are expected to be self sufficient and know where your resources are and not be afraid to ask for help, rather than make excuses. • Professional presentation • The college life can be a time of freedom of expression and a time to explore a world of options. However, there are certain programs like HealthCare that have very specific dress codes and incompliance will not be tolerated. Healthcare facilities have very specific dress codes and as an education institution who works very closely with our industry partners, we strive to prepare you for the realities of the workplace.

  8. Advanced Opportunities Dual Credit - DC • Register with the corresponding college offering the DC (High school counselors and College Dual & Transition Coordinators can help with this process) • $65 - Apply for Fast Forward Funds with the help of your high school counselor • Grades & credits go directly on the respective college transcript and high school transcript affecting your GPA. Warning! The grade you receive will be part of your permanent academic/college transcript and cannot be removed. Any poor grade received could influence future financial aid awards.

  9. Advanced Opportunities Technical Competency Credits – TCC Badges Career & Technical skill based courses such as Culinary, Automotive, Welding, Health Professions, etc. Register in SkillStack at the beginning of a CTE skill based course After completing the TCC eligible badge requirements, the student can purchase those credits for $10 per credit (Ex. 2 credits = $20) Credits must be purchased within 2 years of completion of the course and students have enrolled in classes at 1 of the 6 postsecondary colleges offering the TCC credits.

  10. Ways TCC Credits & Badges Can Be Used • Credits are designed to help you enter and complete the corresponding college program by not having to retake classes you already took in high school, allowing you to finish a degree with less debt and enter a high demand - high paying job more quickly. • Badges can be used as proof of skills on resumes when applying for jobs.
