  1. Modal Verbs These are words which express degrees of possibility. Certain Uncertain We need to use them to predict and persuade someone to see your point of view.

  3. Activity • In pairs cut up and match the modal verb to the statement it matches with. • For example • You ______ brush your teeth 2x a day. • There may be more than 1 that could fit! may should must ought shall

  4. Ordering Modal Verbs – order the set of words from certain to uncertain to see which are the strongest to use in an argument.

  5. Now we are going to write some persuasive text using modal verbs. Mobile phones in school • These are the arguments for both sides

  6. Writing the persuasive text Writing frame • Decide if you are for or against the argument. • Use the writing frame to help organise your writing.
