  5. Family planning program • In 1952 well publicized programme was launched-offered incentives -transistor radios to men who volunteered to be sterilized • partly successful • 1970s-men were forced to be sterilized–lowered birth rates -gave population policies in India a bad reputation.

  6. Today, India's population policy aims to reduce fertility rates, largely by encouraging the use of contraception

  9. incentives • offering couples a reward of 5,000 rupees (600KR) if they delay having a child for two years • If they agree to wait for another year, they receive a further 2,500 rupees (300KR)

  10. Large- scale family planning services. • Network of population control centre's is placed within government hospitals, clinics, and workplace sites. • All service in the centres are provided free of charge to the user.

  11. Aims to increase public awareness of family planning and to train medical personnal. -mass public information campaigns,primary and adult education programmes.
