  1. SharePoint 2010 For End Users What is New in 14 Chapters Ishai Sagi Extelligent Design Author of the “SharePoint 2010 How To” book

  2. Chapter 1 - About SharePoint 2010 • New acronyms? • SharePoint Server (not MOSS) • SPF (not WSS) • External lists • Asset Libraries • Slide Libraries • Tagging • Dialogs instead of pages (optional – per list)

  3. Ribbon interface • Ribbons, tabs and sections • Buttons & dropdowns

  4. Chapter 2 – Finding your way around a SharePoint Site • Sign out of a site • Ribbons • Change display language (with language packs) • “Navigate up” button • “Incoming links” page report

  5. Chapter 3 – Solutions regarding files, list items and forms • Ribbon commands for quicker access to common actions • Tagging SharePoint items, files and pages • Tagging external web pages • Adding notes to SharePoint items, files and pages • Location of view selector • Calendar view improvements

  6. Chapter 4 - Searching in SharePoint • FAST search in SharePoint server • Quickly add search to desktop • Query suggestions

  7. Chapter 5 - Personal Sites and Personal Details • Newsfeed - track my interests, people, tagging, ratings and comments • Personal status (like facebook) • Tags and notes management

  8. Chapter 6 – Creating, adding and editing files, list items and forms • No more “explorer view” • New – open with windows explorer button • Checkboxes for multi-selection of files for some actions (for example - delete) • Inline editing in views • Missing – reports (some still accessible from content manager)

  9. Chapter 7 - Creating lists and document libraries • New “create” dialog with advanced options • Column validation • Enforce Unique Values on columns • Lookup column enhancement: Add a column to show each of these additional fields • External Data column (replaces BDC) • Managed Metadata column • Enforce Custom Validation on a List or Library • Disabling dialogs • Disabling datasheet • Content routing available everywhere

  10. Chapter 8 - Creating list views • Sorting can be told to ignore folders • Inline editing can be enabled or disabled per view • Multi-item selection can be enabled or disabled per view • More settings for mobile views

  11. Chapter 9- Authoring Pages • There are now three types of pages: • Web part page • Publishing page • Wiki page • Page creation process similar to list and library • Page creation process made easier in publishing site (buggy for SPF sites if no library exists) • Changing layouts for publishing pages through ribbon

  12. Chapter 9- Authoring Pages • “Add hyperlink” has more options • Add picture allows upload • Add video\audio option (uses Silverlight web part) • More flexible picture controls • Adding web parts inline • New web part browsing experience • no more drag & drop? • Where is the web part import option • Media web part (sharepoint server only) • Better UI and options for CQWP

  13. Chapter 10 – Managing lists, libraries and list items’ security • Easy to figure out what permission a person\group has on an object • Easy to figure out where permissions are coming from

  14. Chapter 11 - Workflows • Three state workflow joins SharePoint Server (still the only one in SPF)

  15. Chapter 12 – Creating sub sites • New templates (and lots of them) • Enterprise wiki template

  16. Chapter 13 – Customizing the site • Strange new themes – with custom colour schemes! • Easy to set home page for a site (even in SPF) • You can set a page from a different site (in the site collection) to be home page • In sharepoint foundation – impossible to add a heading to left nav with no link behind it

  17. Chapter 14 – Managing site security • Easy to figure out what permission a person\group has on an object • Easy to figure out where permissions are coming from

  18. Some issues to be aware of • No PDF icon out of the box (again) • Inline editing does not trigger content routing • Inline editing has issues in document libraries (no further info, may be ok in RTM) • User profiles – when you set up the server it says there are 2 profiles, but will not show them • Surveys and picture libraries do not have ribbons (possible ok in RTM?) • In some templates selecting different display language ruins the display (hides banner and some buttons)

  19. Some issues to be aware of • IE64 is still not fully supported. • No more site directory • No save site as template in publishing sites (familiar?) • Confusing navigation in central administration • No more create workspace from outlook...this means no “shared attachment” option in outlook 2010 and no create document workspace in other office applications • No datasheet view in picture libraries
