  1. SCIENTIFIC METHOD Constructed and processed By: Kenny Stanley Date Made: August 21, 2011 Period: 4 Type of class: Advanced biology Teachers name: Mr. A

  2. VARIABLES….. • IV- independent variable means what is changed or affected in the experiment. • DV- dependent variable means what is the result of change in the experiment. • CV- is the controlled or unchanged part in the experiment.

  3. QUALI AND QUANI STATEMENTS… • QUALITATIVE STATEMENTS- are statements that represent no numbers. • Examples of qualitative statements..some people chose black over blue, an immense number of new students attend the college due to the increased rate of good grades across the states. • QUANITATIVE STATEMENTS- are statements that are represented with numbers. • Examples of quantitative statements..2 people scored 100% on their algebra test, 3000 students attend the elementary school.

  4. PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCE • APPLIED SCIENCE- Affects humanity right away like antibiotics and medicine. • PURE SCIENCE- Doesn’t affect humanity right away it is sort of an improvement on the known or unknown inventions for instance like faster jets, more stealthy spy planes, faster cars, taller buildings, tastier food.

  5. OBSERVATIONS… • OBSERVATIONS- are what you notice to which begins the experiment. Its what you observe and conclude what it is your observing. Some observation examples consist in the following.. white clouds, heavy rain storm, small box, blue sky, red pen ink, blue colored pencil.

  6. INFERENCES… • INFERENCES- Are a logical explanation.

  7. BAR AND LINE GRAPHS… • A BAR GRAPH- Is a graph used to represent data and doesn’t involve time. • A LINE GRAPH- Represents data but does involve time when setting up the graph.

  8. Mean median and mode… • MEAN- is the average like 1+2+3=6, then... 6 divided by the amount of numbers in the equation equals the average • MEADIAN- is the middle number like 1..2..3 2 is in the middle of 1 and 3, so 2 is the median. • MODE- Is the most repeated number (there can be more than one mode in a set of numbers if more than 1 number is repeated 2 or more times example; 1,2,2,3,3,4,5,6 there are two modes one mode is two the other mode is three.

  9. Control and experimental groups • Control groups-Are similar to the CV in the experiment basically a control group is the unaffected or unchanged part in the experiment • Experimental groups- are similar to the DV in a experiment so the experimental group is basically the result of the change or affected part in the test or experiment

  10. CONCLUSIONS…… • CONCLUSIONS are the answers to the hypothesis to which states the findings or maybe even the results that were given out of the experiment written in a non-conclusive or conclusive form.

  11. HYPOTHESIS …THEROY; • HYPOTHESIS- is a logical guess to therefore provide the basis of starting the experiment or test in the right direction. • THEROY- is a hypothesis that has been tested many times that has really no conclusive data to support the logical guess a theory has the potential to have an answer , but eludes us to finding it, so it may take awhile. • Famous examples of theories… The Big Bang Theory, some mathematical theories instated in the following; Fermat Last Theorem(an + bn = cn)
